Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Primarily responsible for providing human resources support during assigned shift. This position ensures smooth operations by addressing employee concerns, managing disciplinary actions, support hourly onboarding processes, and maintaining accurate reports and metrics. Plays a critical role in fostering positive labor relations and ensuring compliance with internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

Labor Relations and Union Management:

  • Manage disciplinary actions including conducting investigations.
  • Handle critical cases efficiently while preparing detailed disciplinary reports.
  • Implement disciplinary measures as necessary while addressing special situations appropriately.
  • Enforce internal regulations consistently to resolve labor conflicts.
  • Conducts interviews and investigations.
  • Serves as primary contact for union delegates.
  • Address union-related matters effectively.

Reports & Metrics Management:

  • Report on absenteeism rates & turnover statistics regularly
  • Prepare weekly shift-based reports along with generating ratio analysis documents
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related specifically towards labor relations whilst keeping track of relevant metrics

Onboarding and Employee Transfers:

  • Oversee the onboarding process for new employees ensuring a smooth transition into their roles
  • Manage changes related to unionized personnel grades
  • Follow up with new employees over their initial 90 days
  • Execute/support transfer actions between plants

Project participation (local HR, HR campus, plant, etc.)

Employee Services and Support:

  • Conduct Gemba Walks to identify workplace issues.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to supervisors on HR-related issues.
  • Respond to inquiries from supervisors and general staff promptly.
  • Coordinate or participate in roundtable discussions.
  • Follow up on employee complaints regarding employee services (cafeteria, transportation)

Other activities:

  • Ensure supply of office supplies and follows up on department purchases’ approvals
  • Prepare information for HR department, HRM, or plant leadership
  • Participate and/or lead plant/campus events and engagement activities.

Experience/Education - Required

  • Bachelors degree, preferred in Human Resources, Business, Organization Development or Labor Relations.
  • Advanced computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • TRESS system knowledge or equivalents (Workday, Cronos, Oracle)

Experience/Education - Desired

  • At least 1-3 years of HR experience (generalist/specialist) or equivalent
  • KPI's management
  • First line supervision experience
  • Successful track record in the deployment of global HR business processes or programs
  • Knowledge of employment laws and policies
  • Basic proficiency in verbal & written English language skills
