About this Role

We are seeking a high energy, self-starter to drive labor relations initiatives and promote a high performance, engaged culture. Our Indianapolis facility is transforming into a furnace center of excellence with focus on innovation, customer experience and talent and we are looking for an

individual who is ready to join, contribute and grow during this exciting time!

The Indianapolis plant currently has an opening for a Labor Relations Manager. This position will report directly to the Associate Director, Human Resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with plant leadership team to create and deliver proactive labor strategies

  • Administer, coach and train supervisors on executing the collective bargaining agreement

  • Research and prepare arbitrations and labor litigation cases

  • Lead second step grievance process and identification of broader resolutions

  • Research and investigate complex labor and employee issues, and if necessary, coordinate efforts with corporate HR and/or legal on recommendations

  • Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws through appropriate program and process management

  • Provide consultation and mediation regarding work-related issues, conflicts, and discipline policy/procedures questions, contract interpretation

  • Create and deploy communications which will inform management of pertinent work force issues and concerns

  • Work in partnership with site and functional leadership to develop and implement HR programs, including engagement and diversity and inclusion actions, that support business goals

  • Utilize critical thinking skills when assessing issues; focusing on creative and fiscally responsible solutions to meet employee and business needs

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • 2+ years of exempt level human resources experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or MBA

  • Ability to formulate a successful partnership with labor leadership

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and self-directed environment

  • Strong ability to manage ambiguity in investigating employee and labor relation situations

  • Extensive knowledge of employment law (such as the ADA, EEO, ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, NRLA, & Title VII) and ability to apply legal concepts to real world situations

  • Demonstrates analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills

  • Technical skill and ability to accurately utilize MS Office software application, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.

  • Proven ability to influence and work effectively across all levels of the organization

  • Demonstrates discretion, able to work with sensitive and confidential materials and possess good business judgment

  • Fast learner, able to readily apply knowledge gained in one situation to others

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while also able to manage multiple priorities

  • Strong skill and ability to communicate with a high level of professionalism, clarity, and accuracy across all levels of the organization

  • Experience in a customer service environment including skills to handle difficult and sensitive manners, while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality

  • Proven ability to deal with conflict and diffuse difficult situations

  • Capability to work on tasks where limited written procedures and protocols exist, investigating past practices and determining the best course of action
