Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Lab Technologist (LT) is responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures to support the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. The MLT ensures that laboratory operations comply with established quality, safety, and accreditation standards.

Specimen Handling & Processing

  • Collect, label, and process clinical specimens according to established protocols and biosafety guidelines.
  • Ensure correct identification and timely transportation of specimens.

Test Performance

  • Perform laboratory analyses using manual techniques and automated analyzers.
  • Validate and verify test results before release.

Result Reporting

  • Enter and release accurate test results via the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Alert responsible clinicians in case of critical values in a timely manner. Equipment Operation & Maintenance
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments according to standard procedures.
  • Perform troubleshooting and report any equipment malfunctions.

Quality Control & Assurance

  • Perform and document internal and external quality control (IQC/EQC) checks.
  • Adhere to ISO 15189, MSQH, JCI, or other applicable quality and accreditation standards.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of tests, reagent usage, maintenance logs, and quality control activities.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory policies, procedures, and safety standards.

Health & Safety

  • Follow universal precautions and laboratory safety protocols, including use of PPE and proper waste disposal.
  • Report incidents, hazards, and near-misses as per occupational safety guidelines.

Professional Development

  • Participate in continuing education, internal training, audits, and competency assessments.
  • Keep up to date with new laboratory techniques and technologies.

Customer Service & Communication

  • Communicate effectively with clinicians, nurses, and other staff regarding test requirements and urgent results.
  • Assist in responding to inquiries from patients or clients when needed.

Other Duties

  • Carry out any additional tasks or responsibilities assigned by the management to support laboratory operations and service delivery.
