Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree from accredited 4 yr or 2 yr college and completion of an accredited Medical Technology Program, or Medical Laboratory Technician program.
  • Must be currently registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP preferred). If eligible for registration, you must pass the exam within the first year employed.
  • Two years of previous phlebotomy experience on patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric and analytical specimen processing experience in a hospital clinical laboratory setting.
  • Flexibility in work arrangements, you may be asked to perform the same task for an extended period or to perform different tasks on the same day.
  • Ability to work with other people at the laboratory bench.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office software, computer typing skills, and Epic LIS preferred.
  • Ability to work unsupervised during callback times or other hours as assigned.
  • Must maintain current BLS certification

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Draws blood, processes specimens, and reports test results to ordering physician or other care provider.
  2. Prepare samples for analysis.
  3. Monitors procedures and tests in the lab, using abilities to maintain lab equipment and troubleshoot as necessary.
  4. Analyses patient specimens for ABO/Rh, antibody screening, and crossmatching of compatible donor blood in the transfusion service.
  5. Cleans and maintains laboratory facility.
  6. Must always communicate clearly with attention to detail.

  • The employee must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and be able to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
  • The employee must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
