Using sophisticated laboratory equipment,you willlook for bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms, match blood for transfusions, analyze the chemical content of bodyfluidsandtest fordrug levels in the bloodYour efforts are essential in providing physicians with critical information they need to diagnose and treat patients.Additionally, Cleveland Clinic will provide you withampleopportunitiesto enhance your skills andestablishan exciting path in Laboratory Sciences.
A caregiver in this position works days| 8:00am—4:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Receive andaccessionlaboratory specimens into the LIS.
Retrieve, sort,trackand deliver specimens.
Perform specimen investigation procedures to resolve lab specimen issues or problems.
Verifyaccuratedocumentationrelativeto specimen processing.
Maintain patient,specimenand trackingdata usingthelaboratory computer system,trackingand software/devices.
Prepare specimens for analysis and accept or reject specimens.
Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance).
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
HighSchoolDiplomaGED
One year of lab experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate’s Degree(preferably inScience) will substitute for one yearof experience
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and take measurements.
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system.
Handles and transports biohazardous materials and potential carcinogens.
Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation, and tones.
Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
