Down East Community Hospital was incorporated on January 5, 1960 and after the hospital was constructed, the one-story hospital with thirty six beds and ten bassinets welcomed its first patient on December 2, 1964.
Our hospital serves the needs of our immediate community in Machias and all of Washington County, bordered by New Brunswick to the northeast and the Bay of Fundy.
We are an integral part of the region providing inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical, pediatric, obstetric, gynecologic, and emergency care services as part of an integrated health system designed to improve the overall health of the communities we serve.
Specialties not often found in a hospital of our size include Orthopedics, Urology, ENT, Surgical Podiatry, and Pain management. We have a robust family practice presence with clinics in Machias, East Machias, Milbridge and Jonesport Maine.
We are deeply committed to quality, patient safety and satisfaction.
