Job Description

The Clinic Laboratory Technician performs a wide variety of laboratory analyses by methodologies that vary from basic and moderately complex according to established standards and procedures in order to obtain valid data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Utilizes and maintains high technology, scientific equipment and recognizes and resolves testing problems and invalid or inconsistent test data. Collects laboratory specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture for subsequent testing and collects throat culture specimens. Demonstrates a commitment to professional accountability and growth to maintain and expand knowledge and skills. Contributes to the achievement of the mission and philosophy of the Organization. Contributes to the effective operations of the Organization by demonstrating dependability in job performance. Exhibit the values of F.I.R.S.T. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs clinical laboratory tests to provide accurate

diagnostic and therapeutic data in a timely manner.

  1. Performs comprehensive phlebotomy skills for subsequent

test procedures.

  1. Performs quality control studies to ensure the validity of

laboratory data.

  1. Adheres to appropriate safety and personal protection

policies.

  1. Maintains equipment and work area in a manner to ensure

quality of test results and to provide a safe work environment.

  1. Provides collection instructions for outpatients.
  1. Performs comprehensive computer skills per established

protocol to ensure appropriate and timely transmission of

test results.

  1. Collects and processes reference laboratory specimens to

prepare for clinical laboratory studies both onsite and

send outs for reference lab.

  1. Performs drug testing as directed.
  1. Provides clinical orientation to new Associates and

students.

  1. Performs general clerical and office functions including

entering demographic and ordering information into the

computer system.

  1. Processes specimens and assures proper distribution for

testing.

  1. Maintains accurate logs and records. Prepare monthly

statistics.

  1. Performs quality control studies to ensure the validity of

laboratory data.

  1. Considers the age of the patient served, applies knowledge

of growth and development and age-specific techniques

through the life span (neonates/infants, pediatrics,

adolescents, adults, and geriatrics) in planning and

implementing care.

  1. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

One to three years laboratory experience preferred with proven competency skills. Computer skills, medical terminology required.
