Job Description

Join our Upstream Lab team within the Drug Substance Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) organization, where you’ll be the first point of entry for external client processes. You’ll establish and transfer upstream cultivation processes developed externally into our environment, enabling seamless scale-up to large-scale.


About the Job
We offer an exciting job, where you will be working alongside highly experienced scientists and technicians. You’ll ensure efficient tech transfer, robust small-to-large scale translation, and ad‑hoc support to large-scale operations. As no two clients are the same, you’ll partner with a broad range of biopharma companies worldwide and work with industry-leading technologies and equipment in a dynamic, growth-oriented lab and pilot settings.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and analyze cell culture processes to drive decisions for upscaling from small scale to pilot and production scale.
  • Assess and drive continuous improvement of lab practices, data integrity, and technology/ equipment readiness for the future.
  • Author and review technical documentation (protocols, batch records, reports) and contribute to technology transfer packages and control strategies.
  • Collaborate directly with external clients and internal stakeholders to align tasks, timelines and deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Hold a PhD degree, or M.Sc., within Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry/ Life Sciences, or similar with preferred 3-5 years industrial experience.
  • Hands-on experience within cell culture development, preferred mammalian cells, and scale-up from bench to pilot or production scale.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills; experience authoring protocols, reports, and tech transfer documentation.
  • Have excellent skills in English (written and spoken) for presenting data to external clients and internal cross-functional teams.


The Team & Department Area
You will join a dedicated and skilled team of 8 people, technicians and scientists, who works strongly together and takes responsibility. The work environment is informal and collaborative – valuing psychological safety, transparency and empowerment - while things are moving fast, we are having fun.

The Upstream Lab is part of Cell Culture department within the Drug Substance MSAT area consisting of 5 departments: Cell Culture (Upstream), Purification (Downstream), Technology Transfer, Process Data Analytics and Engineering Science. With over 80 people from more than 10 countries you will be part of a very dynamic and international organization.
