Responsibilities

In this role the Lab PAA/Phlebotomist will perform the following duties:

  • Perform routine and advanced venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures.
  • Collect, prepare, process, and store human biological specimens, including blood and body fluids, for laboratory analysis.
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures related to microbiological, hematological, immunohematological, and chemical testing.
  • Release and place laboratory orders using hospital and laboratory computer systems.
  • Receive, process, and distribute patient specimens and blood products.
  • Perform preanalytical laboratory functions, including loading specimens onto analyzers.
  • Prepare slides for staining and microscopic examination.
  • Prepare and package specimens for transportation to outside or reference laboratories.
  • Follow established laboratory procedures and safety protocols to ensure accurate specimen handling and processing.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Requires completion of phlebotomy training program or 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience (clinical or hospital based preferred).
  • In addition, one or more of the following is preferred:
  • Graduation from a certified health-related program at high school level or above; OR
  • Successful completion of Advanced Placement courses in the sciences at the high school level; OR
  • Successful completion of science based studies at college level (minimum 3 credit hours).
  • Prefer GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Must have computer operational skills using a personal computer, laboratory system or other hospital information system.
  • Applicant should display initiative, have the ability to multitask and be able to take on responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to problem-solve and be a team member is essential.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current CPR certification is required.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Not provided.
