Job Description

CELME is an experimental, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research and education lab based at AUB's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, working at the intersection of ecologies, social sciences, activism, and the humanities. The lab convenes researchers, scholars, artists, activists, and communities to examine pressing challenges facing the Mediterranean East, including war and genocide, climate change and ecological collapse, social inequality and displacement.

CELME is seeking a highly organized and intellectually engaged Lab Coordinator to support and coordinate the lab's activities across its research clusters, publications and multimedia outputs, and public events and programs. The position involves coordinating research projects, supporting the production of publications, podcasts, and video content, organizing events and the lab's summer school, and maintaining partnerships with academic, community, and activist collaborators.

The Lab Coordinator will work closely with the Director, core faculty members, affiliated researchers, and the student team to ensure the smooth operation and high-quality output of the lab.

Key Responsibilities

Research Coordination

  • Support coordination of research activities across CELME's four thematic clusters: Economies/Ecologies of War and Ecocide; Communal and Regional Eco-Sovereignties; One Region: Decolonial Pasts and Futures; The Mediterranean East in a rising Global South.
  • Liaise with faculty members, affiliated researchers, and student team members to track project timelines, deliverables, and priorities.
  • Assist with logistics for fieldwork, community-based research, and partnerships with external organizations and communities.
  • Maintain the lab's research archive, documentation, and project records.

Outputs and Publications

  • Support the drafting, editing, and production of publications, reports, and other research and policy-oriented outputs.
  • Coordinate the production of CELME's podcasts and video content, including scheduling, logistics, and liaison with contributors.
  • Assist in preparing and updating content for the lab's website and social media channels.

Events and Community Engagement

  • Plan and coordinate public events, workshops, screenings, and panel discussions.
  • Support the organization of the CELME Summer School Seeds program, including logistics, participant coordination, and materials.
  • Maintain and help grow relationships with community partners, activists, and external collaborators.
  • Coordinate with the FAS events calendar and communications team on outreach and promotion.

Administrative and Grant Support

  • Support the preparation of grant proposals and funding applications, including narrative sections, budgets, and timelines.
  • Assist with reporting requirements for funded projects and coordination with funding agencies.
  • Manage the lab's day-to-day administrative operations, including scheduling, correspondence, and record-keeping.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Anthropology, Sociology, Political Studies, Political Economy, Environmental Studies and Ecologies, or a related field in the social sciences or humanities.
  • Strong interest in critical ecology, political economy, and/or de/anticolonial approaches to the Mediterranean East region.
  • Experience with research coordination, project management, or academic/cultural programming.
  • Familiarity with research ethics and data protection standards.

Skills

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong writing and editing skills in English; and Arabic.
  • Experience with event planning and public engagement.
  • Comfort coordinating multimedia production (podcasts, video) and managing website/social media content.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary, community- and activist-engaged research environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to socially impactful, community-engaged research.
