Laboratory Assistant - Night Shift

The Night Shift Laboratory Assistant supports the clinical laboratory by performing phlebotomy, assisting with analyzer operations, maintaining laboratory workflow, and ensuring continuity of testing services during overnight hours. This role is critical to maintaining analyzer readiness, specimen flow, and operational efficiency to support patient care.
The Laboratory Assistant works under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager and/or Medical Technologist and must adhere to all hospital policies, CLIA regulations, and laboratory quality standards.

Full-Time Position: 40 hours per week/weekly schedule rotation

The Job You Will Perform:
- Perform venipuncture and specimen collection on inpatient and outpatient populations
- Properly label, process, and transport specimens according to laboratory protocol
- Maintain specimen integrity and follow chain-of-custody procedures
- Communicate specimen issues to laboratory staff promptly
- Perform routine maintenance on laboratory analyzers per established schedules
- Ensure analyzers are operational and ready for patient testing
- Identify instrument maintenance errors and escalate issues to laboratory staff/leadership
- Assist with basic troubleshooting per established procedures
- Monitor reagent levels for assigned analyzers
- Maintain reagent inventory and notify staff of low stock
- Ensure reagents are stored properly and within expiration guidelines
- Assist with restocking and supply organization
- Prepare and maintain the daily manifest of laboratory orders
- Assist in organizing and tracking specimens and test requests
- Support efficient test flow and turnaround times
- Maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment
- Follow CLIA, OSHA, and hospital safety policies
- Maintain infection control practices and PPE use
- Participate in training and competency activities
- Support laboratory quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications, Skills and/or Knowledge You Bring:
- High School diploma/GED required
- Phlebotomy experience preferred
- Ability to work independently during overnight hours
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Must be reliable and extremely trustworthy.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with vendors, customers, and team members.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Healthcare or laboratory experience preferred
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program (preferred)
- Familiarity with laboratory analyzers and specimen workflows (preferred
