Job Description

Babcock subsidiary Marine Industrial Design is looking for a Naval Architect (N3) or Snr Naval Architect (N4) to join the team based inone of MID’s office locations in Auckland, Whangarei or Nelson

About the role

Join a leading marine engineering consultancy delivering naval architecture solutions across diverse newbuilding, repair, and conversion projects. You will play a key role in the design process taking concepts forward into practical, compliant designs while working closely with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams. This is a unique opportunity to work on technically challenging projects while contributing to high-profile maritime outcomes.

You will be involved in taking ownership of design delivery, ensuring quality, precision, and adherence to standards, while building strong client relationships and mentoring emerging talent. With a balance of hands-on engineering, project leadership, and stakeholder engagement, this role offers both technical depth and career progression within a respected, growth-focused organisation.

About you

You are a Senior or Experienced Naval Architect with strong design and analytical expertise within the marine sector. You confidently translate complex concepts into practical engineering solutions and thrive under project deadlines. You bring proven engineering analysis, CAD skills and reporting capability, paired with excellent stakeholder communication. You enjoy leading and mentoring others while maintaining high quality standards. Commercially aware and customer focused, you take ownership of project outcomes and consistently deliver compliant, robust designs within budget and scope.

Key Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Naval Architecture or related discipline
  • Professional engineering body registration or membership (e.g. RINA)
  • At least 3 years' naval architecture experience
