Job Description

DB Global Technology is Deutsche Bank’s technology centre in Central and Eastern Europe. Since its set-up in 2013, Bucharest Technology Centre (BEX) has constantly proven its capacity to deliver global technology products and services, playing a dynamic role in the Bank’s technology transformation.

As a Product Owner you will be accountable for maximizing the value of changes delivered to customers, users and internal stakeholders with your multidisciplinary agile team. The changes delivered may be purely IT technical, non-technical and more commonly a combination. You will be the primary interface to internal and external customers / users, managing stakeholder expectations and engaging them throughout e.g. the sponsor, scaled agile team members (where applicable), related agile and non-agile teams, control functions and other stakeholders.

As a Product Owner you will also be accountable for synthesizing stakeholder needs and shaping the overall agile team mission, product vision, scope, desired business outcomes and delivery roadmap with your team. As a “servant-leader”, you will enable the agile team to work effectively by articulating the stakeholder situation, the desired outcomes and why the specific scope is being prioritised. As part of your interface role, you will collaborate with stakeholders including their agile team members to negotiate requirements, shape the product vision, define the delivery roadmap, keep stakeholders informed of status, obtain feedback on agile team outputs, agree implementation steps and ensure value is being realised.

As a Product Owner you will also be accountable for creating, prioritizing and maintaining the product backlog with your agile team, that contains details of all short and medium-term agile team deliverables, each of which with a defined scope, measurable outcomes and acceptance criteria. For each iteration/sprint, you will be responsible for selecting user stories you wish to prioritise for delivery, you discuss the proposed iteration/sprint scope with the agile team, address any clarifying questions and agree on the iteration/sprint scope. You will be a constant source of guidance and review feedback; you will accept completed work products which meet the defined acceptance criteria.

In partnership with the Scrum Master/Agile Coach, you will create an environment of psychological safety which brings out the best in each agile team member, while encouraging the agile team to self-direct their work, to innovate and effectively apply their skills & creativity to deliver the product backlog.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the relevant business strategy, metrics, priorities and customer, user & stakeholder change needs, reflecting this in the agile team mission, product backlog, priorities and roadmap
  • Develop a product vision, requirements and road-map in key focus areas for PB
  • Work closely with the end user to plan and prioritize in line with expectation and needs. Assess value, develop cases, and prioritize stories, epics and themes to ensure work focuses on those with maximum value;
  • Ensure open two-way dialogue and alignment with all stakeholders including internal and external customers / users, the sponsor, other agile teams, control functions, the scaled agile leadership (where applicable) and the agile team members
  • Define, prioritise and maintain the product backlog with the agile team including features, epics, user stories, activities, bugs and team tasks (or equivalents) while providing input and guidance to the agile team on a day-to-day basis, both within agile ceremonies and ad-hoc. Lead the planning product release plans and set expectation for creating of new functionalities
  • Definition of the team mission, product vision and priorities, working with development team and stakeholders, including articulating the underlying rationale, strategic drivers and ‘chain of why’
  • Define purposeful targets for the team and provide the necessary psychological safety to enable high performance and experimentation
  • Use quantitative and qualitative data to guide decision-making and be open to changing direction when new data emerges to maximise the value the agile team delivers
  • Support team members in developing their knowledge and skills in partnership with the Scrum Master/Agile Coach and Chapter Lead;
  • As part of line-management responsibility (where applicable), in line with DB guidelines agree on personal targets, provide regular feedback and undertake performance reviews.

Skills

  • Past experience in coordinating the implementation of IT projects, min 2 years; Good understanding of the IT processes, software development and software operations.
  • Proven record of understanding business needs and converting them into delivery goals
  • Previous experience working in an Agile environment (covering an agile leadership role - Scrum Master, Product Owner, Agile Coach, it’s a plus)
  • Previous exposure with interactions with various senior stakeholders spanning across different regions and business units;
  • Excellent understanding of customer and user needs, business dynamics and banking/technology (as relevant)
  • Familiarly with products and business processes within KYC, it’s a plus
  • Experience in identifying inefficiencies and opportunities in the value chain, processes and products, designing and implementing solutions as an agile team with the support from relevant stakeholders also experience leading product and/or cross functional teams
  • Ability to think strategically and anticipate customer, user and stakeholder needs on a long-term basis, reflecting this in the product vision and ability to deliver incremental features mapped to the vision
  • Experience in change management activities and ability to optimise the impact of agile team delivery while being able to communicate information effectively with people from varying backgrounds and levels of seniority including business, technical and other stakeholders
  • “Servant-leadership” capabilities with the discipline not to act as the team / project manager, the ability to provide direction and drive to enable the agile team to work effectively in a self-directed way and ability to influence senior business and IT executives
  • Completer-finisher mindset which ensures that activities are completed, and business impact is realised
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage customer, user and stakeholder expectations and not to be overwhelmed by external pressures on the team with excellent communication and interpersonal skills at different organisational level with both technical and non-technical people

Education & Experience:

  • BSc in Computer Science, Engineering or similar field
  • Project management experience.
