Our Tuscaloosa County site is home to the production of Mercedes’ luxury SUV models, including electric vehicles. Just down the road in Bibb County, MBUSI has launched the production of high-performance lithium-ion batteries. Our two campuses are among the most advanced automotive manufacturing facilities in the world, with over 6 million square feet combined.

Purpose of the Position:
Under general supervision, this position supports and/or leads, focuses on hot forming, new tool build, engineering changes, BiW and assembly equipment changes, tool improvement, and provides input regarding feasibility of tool/part/equipment changes being considered. Validates changes in tool cost, equipment cost, engineering change cost, and piece-price. Works with ramp-up and support teams (Quality, Einfuehrung, Development Hub, etc) on current series production, current project ramp-up, and future projects as directed.
Essential Functions:
Reviews tool/equipment quality, part/assembly quality, tool/assembly process capability and works with Quality and Einfuehrung to decide when tools are ready for series production. 45%
Provides tool tracking for new tools and communicate with other departments when necessary, to make these decisions. 5%
Participates in and helps prepare for process review trials (B-phase & Production Trials) at Anlauffabrik (Series Pre-production) in Germany and at tool supplier locations as well as with home-line integration at the supplier and at MBUSI. 5%
Prepare and present information for tool and/or product reviews at meetings and provide information for required reports. 2%
Organizes internal and external meetings to clarify definition of problems and report findings. 5%
Procures from and exchanges information with Quality, Einfuehrung, Development Hub, suppliers, and other related persons or departments to ensure that tool and equipment quality, capability and timing requirements will meet or exceed MBUSI requirements. 10%
Provides feedback to Purchasing when requested as to if/when supplier has completed their obligation to Mercedes and if/when supplier should be paid for tooling (new tooling and engineering changes). 2%
Confirms tool cost and piece price. 5%
Provides technical expertise for Purchasing department regarding all technical-related issues. 5%
Provides relevant requirements to development engineers for manufacturing enhancement. 10%
Documents required product improvements and work with development engineers until closure. 2%
Supports efficiency improvement measures of the Series Planning Department. 3%
Follows and ensures all affected rules, policies and laws concerning safety and security.
Perform safe work practices and participate in trainings and safety programs in a positive and proactive way by following safety rules, procedures, regulations, standards and laws. Report all unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and injuries to supervisor or Human Resources.
Work safely 100% of the time.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Necessary Skills all must be met in order to qualify for position.
Education:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Other Engineering or in a related area, and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years' of relevant professional experience in the following area(s):
Engineering function within a manufacturing setting with strong emphasis on hot forming and project management.
Necessary Skills, Certifications, etc.:
Flexibility to support MBUSI needs and demands.
Knowledge in CAD systems: Siemens NX, SMARAGD. Knowledge in PC applications: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to work on weekends and/or holidays in certain cases.
Preferred Skills:
Ability to clearly communicate technical information, both verbally and in writing, in German and English.
Work experience with Mercedes-Benz in product development and in ramp-up phases.
Experience in leading problem-solving groups.
Knowledge in system applications such as ZEUS, Dialog, ACM, Engineering Client, KT-Datenbank.
