The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Education and Early Learning, Division of State Schools, Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) in Louisville (Jefferson County) has an opening for a KSB/KSD Instructional Assistant.

The Kentucky School of the Blind (KSB) has nearly 180 years of service whose mission is to provide comprehensive educational services to all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired, Kindergarten to age 21. KSB prides itself on helping all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired to develop their talents, their skills, and attitudes to become confident, competent, and independent adults.

EDUCATION: High School graduate
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two (2) years of experience working within a school or classroom environment.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): An employee in this job title at the Kentucky School for the Deaf must furnish to the agency's appointing authority within twelve (12) months of appointment or entrance into this class, documentation that he or she possesses the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) rating of "Survival" level. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office or classroom setting assisting teachers and assisting students who are hearing impaired and/or vision impaired.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
