The Kroc Associate is focused on member acquisition and experience in the areas of Membership, Recreation and Fitness. These staff members are responsible for participating in the creation of a welcoming, helpful, and safe environment where individuals and families can learn, grow, and thrive. Oversees the daily use of the fitness center and equipment by members, guests, and visitors; ensures safe, professional, and enjoyable operation of the fitness area; ensures the safety, cleanliness and proper maintenance of the fitness facility and equipment; opens and/or closes the gym and basic set up for events on a daily basis.

Essential Functions
Provides Excellent Customer Service and Experience to Members, Guests and Colleagues
• Warmly greets all people that we encounter throughout the Kroc Center
• Looks for opportunities to be helpful to members, guests, and colleagues
• Listens, and offers thoughtful solutions for members, guests, and colleagues
• Offers tours that connect individual or family needs to Kroc Center programs
• Assists in maintaining a clean and organized environment throughout the building
• Answers incoming phone calls, addresses needs, and provides program information in a professional and kind manner
• Uphold Kroc Center policies to maintain a safe and family friendly environment
• Assists (or lead when applicable) in emergency situations
• Explains Kroc member offerings, such as Kroc Starts, equipment orientations, facility rules, etc.
• Sanitizes equipment, mops, and sweeps, fitness room, gymnasium, and studios
• Performs daily inspection of all fitness and weight room equipment; ensure routine, preventative, and deferred maintenance is performed: report needed repairs. Performs minor and routine maintenance of the equipment
• Maintains inventory of all equipment; provides evaluation of condition and make recommendation for replacement as needed.
• Opens and closes the facility and assists with set up for events and group fitness classes, as needed
• Maintains a professional appearance in accordance to Salvation Army standards, and Kroc Center dress code
• Alerts leadership if necessary materials have been depleted (e.g., copy paper or program guides)

Operates POS System
• Operates CCMS/RMS computer software for customer transactions in accordance to Salvation Army and member policies
• Handles cash transactions in an ethical manner
• Secures the POS area at the open and close of shifts
• Counts the cash register at the beginning and end of shifts
• Uses CCMS system to check-in members and guest

Maintains Knowledge Necessary to be Proficient
• Attends Salvation Army orientation
• Attends department and center meetings and trainings
• Reads department and center updates prior to each shift as applicable

Performs other duties as required.
• Serves as a back-up to slide attendants during peak workloads and breaks to guard the safety of swimmers by providing constant surveillance of the slide area; directs and supervises the behavior of swimmers utilizing the slide to ensure compliance with pool safety rules.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of personal fitness and use of exercise equipment.
• Knowledge of general cleaning and equipment maintenance techniques.
• Knowledge of effective and accepted communication and motivation practices.
• Skill in operating a computer.
• Ability to work independently and relate well with people.
• Ability to share knowledge on the form and function of each piece of equipment and can demonstrate its proper use.
• Ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, coaching and education including but not limited to:
Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to people of all ages.
Ability to demonstrate the appropriate level of sensitivity to individual needs.
Ability to demonstrate appropriate positive motivation and discipline consistently.
Ability to be responsive and dependable in meeting member needs.
Ability to handle security and crisis situations, calmly and effectively.
Ability to seek supervision and use it consistently.

Education and Experience

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School diploma or G.E.D.

• Experience in customer relations and leading fitness and recreational activities preferred.

• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certifications

• Safe From Harm Certification
• Blood Borne Pathogens Certification
• Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aide/AED certification within first 30 days of employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions.

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
• Ability to demonstrate good physical condition and effort associated with walking, running, standing, and moderate-to-advanced weight lifting in a fitness center environment including the ability to meet the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs.
• Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment. Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent changes basis.
