Job Description

A single individual with a primary residence in Stamford, CT, is seeking a full-time cook/housekeeper as their current cook/housekeeper is retiring after 20 years with the family. The schedule will be Thursday through Monday from 11 am to 8 pm (through dinner), with a 1-hour unpaid lunch break daily. The client spends most of January abroad, as well as half of March, and so both these months will be lighter in terms of workload. The client has a second property in the City, though this will not be the candidate's responsibility. Summer tends to be busier, as extended family visits- typically 2 additional adults and 2 small children will live in from June through August, though everyone will eat the same food. There is a full-time housekeeper already employed (she has worked for the family for 5+ years), and responsibilities will therefore be primarily related to food stock/preparation and keeping the kitchen area clean and organized.

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities:

  • Shopping, cooking, and cleaning for lunch and dinner
  • Menu planning for lunch and dinner
  • Stock control and inventory of daily foods (yogurt, milk, fruits, OJ) and pantry staples (peanut butter, butter, flour, sugar)
  • Regularly cleaning out the refrigerator and freezer, and discarding out-of-date and spoiled products.
  • Kitchen, Breakfast Room, Dining Room, and Dining Porches upkeep
  • Dinner party (when we have a large number of guests, we use catering as needed
  • Helping to polish silverware

Quarterly Responsibilities

  • Wipe outside kitchen/ pantry cabinets
  • Clean inside and outside of cabinets
  • Deep clean stoves, hoods, vent, and controls

Weekly Responsibilities

  • On Saturday’s / Sunday’s or when the other housekeeper is out making Susan’s bed, tidy up the dressing room, light cleaning of the bathroom, and emptying the garbage from these rooms.
  • On Saturday’s / Sunday’s or when the other housekeeper is out, light cleaning of downstairs bathroom and, in the summer, the pool house bathroom.
  • On Saturday’s / Sunday’s or when the other housekeeper is out, do a walk-through of the house to make sure things are straightened and tidied.
  • Pledge the sliding door leading to dining porch
  • Clean dishwasher filter
  • Check refrigerator and freezer for expired and moldy food
  • Wipe all refrigerator and freezer shelves
  • Clean stove backsplash and surface of stove hood and controls
  • Check that there is soap in the kitchen dispensers and paper towels
  • Check that all salt and pepper shakers are full
  • Submit receipts to Jessica to ensure petty cash is available to purchase groceries and household needs.
  • Work with Susan on the weekly order from the family farm when in season
  • Work with the other housekeeper (Gianinna) on flowers and plant care

Daily Responsibilities

  • Make sure that there are coffee beans and clean water in the coffee machine. *Do not perform the clean cycle on the coffee machine - the principal's PA will do this.
  • Make sure that there are water bottles and that the water pitcher is full
  • Make sure that we have the daily breakfast essentials (OJ, Yoghurt, milk, fruit)
  • Wipe any spills from the drawer, refrigerator,r and freezer
  • After dinner, wipe and mop the floor
  • After dinner, wipe all kitchen surfaces
  • After dinner,r wipe down the stove and venting
  • Run dishwasher every night, and if there is not a full load, wash what there is by hand.
  • Before you leave,e empty all garbage cans in the kitchen

Requirements

  • Valid US Passport, Green Card, or EAC
  • Candidates must be honest and reliable with sterling, verifiable professional references.

Salary and Benefits

  • Compensation: Open and competitive for the right candidate ($45/hr +)
  • Schedule: Includes a one-hour unpaid meal break.
  • Paid Time Off: Three weeks of PTO annually (including an additional week provided during the family's extended January travel).
  • Holiday Schedule: The household observes eight major federal holidays. Both Housekeepers will typically rotate holiday coverage. If scheduled to work on a holiday, compensation is paid at 1.5x the regular rate.
  • Health Insurance: A health insurance stipend is provided, covering 70% of an employee's individual health insurance premium. Candidates must obtain and maintain their own individual policy. Dental and vision coverage are not provided.
