Renison invites applications for a contract part-time Korean Language Instructor for the Spring 2024 term within the Community and Professional Education Continuing Education (CAPE-CE) and the Waterloo King Sejong Institute

Responsibilities and expectations include:
· Meeting classes at the times and for the period specified.
· Assisting the coordinator(s) with the placement of students in courses as necessary.
· Preparing for distribution at the first class to participants and CAPE-CE staff a course syllabus, using the Continuing Education Template, containing the following information:
o Standard course information (meeting times, office hours, instructor contact information, textbooks/materials, etc.).
o Brief course description with intended learning outcomes (this information is property of Renison University College).
o Schedule of classes including topic and due dates.
· Maintaining accurate class lists and submitting to the coordinators(s) the names and attendance of students who completed the course.
· Setting and grading (providing feedback) assignments, exercises, and tests as appropriate.
· Participating and collaborating with coordinator(s) and/or other instructors in curricular meetings, and to ensure the smooth delivery of program materials.
· Being reasonably available for student consultation throughout the term and afterwards, including if appropriate, by electronic means.
· Developing/ amending/ updating course materials and content for the delivery through preparation of course materials such as/but not limited to:
o PowerPoint presentations, practice activities and tasks, etc.
· Structuring course materials in an online learning management system (such as Canvas-not mandatory for in-person delivery classes) and relevant course modules with usability and accessibility in mind.
· Performing additional duties in consultation with CAPE-CE administrator(s), that may arise in the process of preparing course for delivery and during course delivery.
· Certification from a recognized institution to indicate successful training/completion of Certificate of Korean Language Teacher (level 3 and up).
· Prior experience as Korean language instructor and/or tutor with knowledge of instructional strategies and lesson planning tailored to language learners.
· Extensive knowledge, understanding of Korean community, culture, and history.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively in English and Korean to convey concepts to students who may be new to the Korean language.
· Experience and familiarity with online teaching platforms such as Zoom, Canvas, etc.
· Ability to meet deadlines, particularly when faced with competing priorities.
· Flexibility to teach in the evenings.
Gross salary is anticipated to be $2385.37 and is dependent on course and hours of delivery.
The expected hours of class are 4.5 hours per week for 10 weeks in duration.
