Department: The Salvation Army Lihue Corps

Position Title: Kokua Soup Kitchen Cook

Supervisor Corp Officer

FLSA Status: Part Time

The Kokua Soup Kitchen Cook is responsible for running and preparing meals 4 times a week for 100 people and or) according to the situation. This position is dependent on available funding and/or) Food bank relationships. Must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass TSA driving restrictions.

The Kokua Soup Kitchen Cook will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Lihue Corps

REQUIRE EDUCATION EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • A minimum of three years working in a commercial kitchen
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, meal preparation and balanced nutrition
  • Ability to work well with professionals in the community, as well as the variety of populations served on the property.
  • Must be motivated, a self-starter, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills are a must- both written and oral
  • Must have a sense of cleanliness, tidiness, and neatness.
  • Understand The Salvation Army standards, philosophy, and policy and willingness to adhere to them.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • The ability to prepare large scale and well balance meal to feed 100 people.
  • Oversee the food preparation, servicing and cleanup of kitchen and dining room.
  • Ensure restrooms, kitchen, pantries, freezers and refrigerators are clean.
  • Freezers and refrigerators are maintained at correct temperatures.
  • Responsible for ordering and purchasing food and kitchen supplies.
  • The kitchen, pantry, food storage, dining area meets all regulations from the health department and safety protocols are in order.
  • Weekly menu planning and meat menu is posted at each meal.
  • Ensure a vegetarian dish is available at each meal provided.
  • Ensure all reports are completed by the end of the month for The Salvation Army as well as the Hawaii Food Bank & Independent Food Bank
  • Available to prepare meats in case of an emergency for all EDS needs
COORDINATION OF DONATED MEALS:
  • Solicitation of community agencies, businesses, and churches to provide 1 cooked meal per month to the soup kitchen.
  • Working with community food trucks in collaboration to provide 1 cooked meal per month.
  • Ensure collaboration and partnership with ACF of Kauai is an utmost priority, all requests and requirements are met.
  • Ensure all donations of meals have been cleared/approved with the health department.
  • Solicitation of meals and/ or food needed in an EDS situation.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Performs other duties as assigned by a Corps Officers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position requires standing; walking; sitting; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 45 pounds

SKILLS/TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:

Valid Hawaii driver’s license (if needed)

WORK SCHEDULE: 5 Hours on Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday. 4 hours on Friday. Off Saturday, Sunday, & Monday.
