About the role

UnderthedirectionofClinicalLeadership,theOperatingRoom(OR)RNhasresponsibilityforthe delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients and staff in the intraoperativeareas. Monitor patient care to assess the progress of the operating room process.May function in the surgical technician role as needed, including instrument handling,maintainingthe sterile field, performing surgical counts, and case set/turnover.Maintain open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance and quality care.

What you'll do

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Providepatientswithintraoperativecareinprocedureroomsandoperatingrooms.

• Transport patientsto andfromoperating/procedureroom.

• Preparepatientsforsurgerybydisinfectingskinattheoperationsiteandpositioningthemonthe operatingtable.

• Ensurepropersupplies,equipment,andmedicationsare ready foruse.

• Verifyname,strengthanddosageofmedication.

• Verifypatient,procedure,operativesite,positioningandequipmentcorrespond.

• Responsiblefor“timeout”persiteverificationpolicy.

• Constantobservationforanybreakofsteriletechnique.

• Assistsurgeonduringprocedureswithdutiessuchaspassingmedicalequipmentand

monitoringpatients’vitalsigns.

• Ensurethattheoperatingroomrunssmoothlyandisstockedwithallnecessarysurgicalsupplies andequipment.

• Develop andimplementcareplansforsurgicalpatients.

• Assistinthemaintenanceandstorageofsurgicalequipment.

• Communicatewithpatientsandotherhealthcareprofessionalstoensurecontinuityofcareincluding surgical/procedure delays.

• Apply asepticand sterile techniques to medical instruments and equipmentbefore,during, and aftersurgery.

• Alleviatepatients’concernsbyansweringquestionsandprovidingpostoperativecare

instructions.

• Maintainup-to-dateandaccuratedocumentationofnursingcareprovidedtoensurethe integration of information for use by the healthcare team to ensure quality care.

• Cleananddisinfectalltables,countersurfaces,stands,andfloorbetweenallcases.

• Abletoproblemsolveinthepresenceofstressfulsituations/workenvironment.

• Performotherdutiesasassigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED:

• Highschooldiplomaorequivalent

• Graduateofanaccreditedschoolofnursing

• RNlicenseinappropriateState

• BLS,ACLS,andPALScertification(as required by individual ASC policy)

PREFERRED:

• Minimumtwoyearsofnursingexperience

• Bachelor’sorMaster’sdegreeinNursing

• ASCexperience

• CNORcertification
