Job Description

The knife room attendant is responsible for operating and maintaining the robotic knife sharpener.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean, sanitize, and store knives and other tools following safety standards.
  • Inspect knives for damage or wear and ensure that they are sharp and in good working condition.
  • Perform regular maintenance and sharpening of knives, ensuring they are always ready for use.
  • Maintain an organized knife storage area, ensuring knives are properly categorized and easy to access.
  • Use automatic sharpening and polishing machine to sharpen knives.
  • Inspect knives and other cutting tools to determine their sharpening needs.
  • Determine the number of grinding and polishing cycles and the crowning of the knife, via touch panel.
  • Monitor inventory levels of knives and related equipment, notifying supervisors of any needed replacements or repairs.
  • Repair or replace any damaged or broken knives.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization in the knife room.
  • Ensure all knives are safely handled and stored to prevent accidents.
  • Follow safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries during the sharpening process.
  • Maintain and update records of knife maintenance, inventory and repair logs.
  • Adhere to workplace safety standards and report any issues immediately.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Prior experience in using sharpening equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols in handling knives.
  • Must be able to work in a humid, cold, wet or slippery surface at varied heights in and around moving equipment and parts with the use of personal protective equipment (P.P.E).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience/knowledge of manufacturing environment.
  • Previous heavy machinery experience in manufacturing environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Be attentive to detail.
  • Ability to work safely, wear P.P.E, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to attend work consistently.
  • Display strong work ethnicity.
  • Ability to employ appropriate sharpening techniques while ensuring safety standards.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to inspect and assess blade condition and sharpness of a blade visually and by touch.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
