About This Role
The Kitchen Steward plays an essential role in supporting daily dining operations by maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment. This position helps ensure residents and guests receive quality food service by supporting sanitation, dishwashing, inventory organization, and food delivery activities. Working closely with the Executive Chef and Dining Services team, the kitchen steward contributes to operational efficiency, food safety compliance, and an exceptional dining experience.
What You'll Do
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout kitchen, storage, and food preparation areas.
- Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, cookware, utensils, carts, and other kitchen equipment.
- Operate dishwashing and sanitation equipment while monitoring required temperatures and chemical levels.
- Stock, organize, rotate, and store food and non-food supplies according to established procedures.
- Deliver food and supplies to service areas and assist with basic food preparation as needed.
- Keep floors, workstations, equipment, and walkways clean and free of safety hazards.
- Support inventory organization and assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards while reporting equipment issues or hazards to supervisors.
Skills You Need
Must Have Skills
- Knowledge of basic kitchen sanitation and food safety practices.
- Ability to read, write, follow instructions, and perform basic arithmetic.
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks within established schedules.
- Ability to identify and communicate equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or operational issues.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and work in a physically active environment.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
Nice to Have Skills
- Previous experience in food service, hospitality, healthcare dining, or commercial kitchens.
- Experience operating commercial dishwashing equipment.
- Familiarity with inventory stocking and storage procedures.
- Experience assisting with food preparation or service operations.
Education: No degree required. Relevant experience and a strong work ethic are valued.
