We are currently recruiting for Kitchen Stewards to work in Queenstown.
Purpose
As a Kitchen Steward, you will have a demonstrate a “Growth Mindset” to allow for maximum learning under the guidance of the Chefs and Senior chefs. Responsible for the cleaning and basic food preparation duties within the kitchen or food preparation areas. Maintain strict hygiene and safety procedures. Embrace the hotels’ “Forever Reimagining “philosophy and create moments that delight our guests or your colleagues.
Primary Responsibilities
• Maintain a high level of workplace hygiene and safety in the kitchen and related areas.
• Cleaning and maintenance of cooking utensils and cutlery used in the kitchen and/or restaurants according to the hotels Food Safety Program.
• Temperature recording of Dishwashing Machines, Cool Rooms, Fridges, Freezers, Hotboxes and Bain Maries
• Assist with the assembly and preparation of ingredients for cooking as required.
• Misen Place including but not limited to peeling, cutting vegetables, herbs or bakery items
• Cleaning, sanitation and storage of all cutlery, crockery, kitchen equipment and appliances, using either industrial washing machines or hand washing where appropriate as per HACCP Guidelines
• Cleaning of walls, shelving, floors and general kitchen workspaces, adhering to cleaning schedule as prescribed for the area.
• Cleaning of food storage areas including fridges, cool rooms, freezers and dry goods stores, ensuring that principles of food hygiene are being observed; report any hazards or problems to Executive/Head Chef/Manager on Duty immediately.
• Remove rubbish regularly; ensuring the kitchen and waste areas are free of refuse.
• Clean industrial bins and loading bay area on a daily basis
• Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained in effective working order, report any faults or repairs required to the Executive/Head Chef.
• Assist and liaise with chef on duty with basic food preparation; grating, peeling, chopping, preparing batters, garnishes, traying/preparing food for cooking and seasonings.
• Attend to guest requests efficiently, constantly striving to provide exceptional guest experience.
• Follow hotel procedures with respect to grooming, performance and conduct standards, occupational health and safety, emergency procedures and all other hotel policies and procedures as detailed in the team member handbook.
• Ensure all food safety policies and logs are adhered to and completed daily.
• Maintain all lines of communication within food and beverage and across all other departments.
• Observe safe work practices at all times and monitor activities of co-workers, ensuring department is a safe work place.
• Be available to assist in other outlets, sections as required.
• Participate in scheduled training and development programs provided by the hotel to improve self.
• Attend departmental meetings as required.
• This isn’t an exhaustive list – your Manager or managing Chef may have other reasonable tasks, projects or instructions on occasion.
Skills, Experience and Requirements
• You will ideally have work experience in a comparable kitchen environment however full training will be provided and there is no requirement to have work experience.
• You must possess a good understanding of how to work in a kitchen environment.
• You can physically meet the demands for this role including constant standing & walking, frequent lifting and moving of objects up to 20 kgs (Hotel based)
• Shift work will be required and may include early and late shifts as per hotel operations. Flexibility is required to work Monday to Sunday on a rotating roster.
• Weekend and public holiday shifts are required.
• Immaculately presented – you have exceptional grooming and always wear the appropriate uniform and name badge, with pride! You make sure your team always look the part too.
• Exceptional communication skills - Multilingual would be viewed as an advantage, with spoken and written English at a proficient level.
