We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our Catering team on a part time basis working 30 hours per week. In this role, you will play an important part in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the kitchen by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation. You will support chefs and kitchen staff by keeping work areas clean and safe, assisting with deliveries, and helping with basic food preparation tasks when required. Please note, this is a term-time only role working 37 weeks per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all kitchen areas, including dishes, utensils, pots, pans, surfaces, floors, and equipment
- Wash cookware, utensils, and cutlery efficiently to ensure they remain available for service
- Assist with the care, cleaning, and maintenance of kitchen equipment
- Keep food storage and supply areas clean, organised, and well maintained
- Support the unloading and correct storage of food deliveries
- Remove food waste and recycling in line with college policies and procedures
- Assist with general kitchen cleaning duties and respond promptly to spills and hazards
- Support chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks as required
- Work in accordance with food hygiene, health and safety, and college policies at all times
- Attend relevant training and development activities to support performance in the role
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience working in a catering, hospitality, or kitchen environment is desirable
- Knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety requirements is desirable
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a busy environment
- Ability to remain calm and organised under pressure
- GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) at Grade C/4 or above are desirable
- A catering qualification would be advantageous
