We are currently looking for a Kitchen Manager to join our team of committed professionals. This Full-time Contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp location near Spanish, ON.
Under the leadership of the Camp Director, the Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing all kitchen and dish pit operations. This includes managing and evaluating kitchen staff, supporting food preparation and meal service, planning menus, maintaining inventory, ordering food, ensuring compliance with health, food safety, and cleanliness standards, and accommodating dietary restrictions and allergies for campers, clients, and staff.

START DATE: May 1, 2026
LOCATION: YMCA John Island
RATE OF PAY: $19.00-$22.00 / Hourly

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage and evaluate kitchen staff, providing guidance, training, and ongoing support
• Support food preparation and meal service, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery
• Plan menus, maintain inventory, and order food as needed
• Oversee cleanliness and organization of all food service areas
• Ensure compliance with Health and Safety, OCA, and CQRP standards related to food service operations
• Accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies for campers, clients, and staff
• Schedule kitchen staff
• Assist with food preparation
• Plan and coordinate food service requirements for Outtrips
• Manage the food service budget

QUALIFICATIONS
• Working towards or holding a college diploma in Food Service Management, Culinary Arts, or a related field (*for education completed outside of Canada, a WES evaluation is required)
• Experience catering for large groups (up to 200 people), preferably in a camp or residential setting
• Supervisory experience in kitchen or food service management
• Current Safe Food Handler Certificate
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
• Bilingualism in both official languages is considered an asset
• Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

CAMP EQUITABLE EMPLOYMENT FUND
The Camp Equitable Employment Fund (CEEF) is a grant created to reduce barriers to camp employment for individuals who have been historically marginalized and underrepresented in the camping industry.
The fund is open to Canadians, ages 18 to 25, who are a part of a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) communities. Ideal candidates will have previous experience, or a demonstrated interest, in working with youth. Camp-specific experience is not required.
Successful applicants will receive financial assistance to offset the personal expenses of working in the outdoor industry. This could include: certification courses, personal gear, equipment and travel costs.
Fund Application Process:

• Receive your offer of employment, based on successful interview and reference checks.
