Summary

Responsible for preparing and maintaining the meal site and kitchen for daily luncheon services. Prepares and serves food and beverages, assists seniors with physical limitations, and ensures proper food storage and temperature monitoring. Maintains kitchen supplies and performs routine cleaning, sanitation, and dishwashing to ensure a safe and organized environment.

Examples of duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Prepares the meal site for daily luncheon.
  • Washes all tables and counters in the kitchen area on a daily basis.
  • Prepares coffee and tea daily.
  • Ensures that all condiments are set on the tables and kept replenished.
  • Monitors and records refrigerator and freezer temperatures.
  • Inventories kitchen supplies and prepares a list of items that need to be ordered from various vendors.
  • Brings meals and beverages to senior citizens that are unable to carry food trays or stand in line due to physical restrictions.
  • Serves food to congregate meal participants assembled in the service line.
  • Insures site is cleaned after luncheon and all trays, cups and glasses, silverware, pots and pans are rinsed, soaked, and/or scrubbed and placed in dishwasher.
  • All dishes are air dried and put up.
  • Silverware is wrapped and set in racks for the following day.
  • Refrigerators and freezers are wiped and cleaned daily.
  • Kitchen area floors are swept and mopped daily.
  • The steam table, freezer and refrigerators are thoroughly is cleaned weekly or more often if needed.

Qualifications

This position is subject to the City of Hobbs’ Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing and follow-up testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent preferred. Previous experience in food preparation or related field required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of kitchen equipment, materials and supplies used in kitchen area.
  • Knowledge on handling prepared foods.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to read and utilize a food thermometer.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Older Americans staff, Parks, Recreation, & Community Affairs personnel and general public.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS

Ability to obtain Food Safety Training certificate 60 days of hire.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Under the general supervision of the Nutrition Specialist Outreach Worker, Senior Center Director, and Recreation Director

The noise level is usually quiet while in the dining room, or moderately loud in the kitchen area when the dishwasher is running.
