Job Description

Shape your future as part of an international company

Do you enjoy building strong relationships with healthcare professionals and turning scientific understanding into meaningful customer engagement?

Then we would like to hear from you.

As Key Account Manager in Belgium, you will play a key role in establishing Abacus Medicine Pharmaceuticals within the local cardiac surgery community.

This is a field-based role, with responsibility for developing our presence across the market through direct engagement with hospitals and healthcare professionals.

This is an opportunity to join us at an exciting stage: preparing the market for launch, building relationships with key hospitals and healthcare professionals, and supporting the introduction of a new treatment option within cardioplegia.

What awaits you

As our Key Account Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial development of your market within cardiac surgery.

You will work with a focused number of cardiac surgery centres and build strong, long-term relationships with the key stakeholders involved in cardioplegia and cardiac surgery – particularly cardiac surgeons and perfusionists, but also anaesthesiologists, hospital pharmacists and other relevant hospital decision-makers.

The role combines scientific and clinical understanding with strong commercial execution. You should be comfortable discussing clinical data and current treatment practices, understanding how individual cardiac surgery centres work, identifying opportunities and barriers to adoption, and developing an account strategy accordingly.

As one of our first commercial colleagues in the market, you will have a high degree of ownership and the opportunity to directly influence how we build our presence locally.

As a field-based KAM, you will spend a significant part of your time visiting hospitals and customers across the market.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Building and developing relationships with key cardiac surgery centres and relevant healthcare professionals across the market.

  • Developing and executing account plans for your assigned hospitals, with a clear focus on launch readiness and adoption.

  • Mapping the clinical and commercial decision-making process within individual hospitals and identifying the stakeholders who influence cardioplegia practices.

  • Understanding current cardioplegia protocols, clinical practices and customer needs in order to identify relevant opportunities.

  • Engaging customers in high-quality scientific and product discussions in line with approved materials and applicable compliance requirements.

  • Identifying opportunities and barriers to adoption and translating customer insights into concrete commercial actions.

  • Supporting hospital onboarding, product introduction and appropriate customer education.

  • Working closely with Medical Affairs, Market Access and Marketing to ensure coordinated customer engagement and successful execution of the local launch strategy.

  • Sharing relevant customer and market insights with the wider cross-functional team and documenting customer interactions in our CRM system.

  • Representing Abacus Medicine Pharmaceuticals at relevant national and international congresses, meetings and professional events.

What you should bring

We are looking for someone who combines commercial drive with clinical credibility

You may already be working in pharmaceutical or medical-device sales within a hospital environment. Alternatively, you could come from the cardiac surgery environment – for example as a perfusionist or clinical specialist – and have the commercial mindset and communication skills needed to succeed in a customer-facing role.

Experience within cardiac surgery, cardioplegia, cardiology, anaesthesia or another highly specialised hospital environment would be a strong advantage.

You should be able to understand the science, engage confidently with highly specialised healthcare professionals and translate clinical and customer insights into effective account strategies.

We also expect you to have:

  • A university degree, healthcare qualification or other relevant educational background.

  • Experience working with hospitals and specialist healthcare professionals.

  • Ideally, experience within cardiac surgery, perfusion, cardioplegia, cardiology, anaesthesia or a related clinical area.

  • Strong commercial capabilities and the ability to develop accounts from initial engagement through to adoption.

  • The confidence and scientific curiosity to discuss clinical data with cardiac surgeons, perfusionists and other specialist stakeholders.

  • A proactive, independent and structured way of working.

  • A strong sense of ownership and the ability to operate effectively in a launch environment where not everything is already established.

  • Strong teamwork and cross-functional collaboration with Medical Affairs, Marketing, Market Access and Commercial Operations.

  • Dutch or French at native or fluent level, both written and spoken.

  • Fluent English and the confidence to work in an international organisation.

  • A valid category B driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly within the market.
