Kennel Assistant
Part - Time
$17-18 hourly

The role of Kennel Assistant is an entry level position designed to offer support for the Boarding department, to assist hospital staff in housekeeping and maintenance, and to assist clinical staff when needed. The role is meant to offer exposure to a clinical veterinary setting. Employees showing the necessary proficiencies listed below can be considered for development in a clinical role.

The Kennel Assistant will be the Direct Report of the Inpatient Lead and/or RVT for questions, if lead is unavailable.

Responsibilities:

• Boarding
• Boarding staff will consist of kennel assistants, and as such will perform the day-to-day tasks assigned
• Routine walks, feeding and husbandry of boarding pets
• Documentation of boarding care
• Escalation of any boarding pet needs to lead or DVM
• Safe storage of boarding pet belongings
• Boarding admissions and discharges
• Treatments of boarding pets
• Facility Maintenance
• Maintain cleanliness of all hospital areas, including Isolation (including but not limited to sweeping and mopping of floors, housekeeping station, and garbage bins)
• Assist clinical staff with cleaning of cages after patients are discharged
• Continuous oversight of all hospital laundry
• Ordering of Prescription Diets (retail and in-house use)
• Completion of Daily Tasks Checklist

Qualifications

• Entry Level, previous exposure to clinical environment preferred but not mandatory
• Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks and deal with an environment of changing priorities.
• Proficiency in all aspects of their department
• Consistent demonstration of Core Values
• Sufficient physical strength, mobility, and stamina to lift and/or move heavy pets and objects.

Requirements

• Minimum 95% attendance in good standing
