The Kentucky Department of Education is a service agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and part of the
Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. The department provides resources and guidance to Kentucky’s
public schools and districts as they implement the state’s P-12 education requirements. The department also
serves as the state liaison for federal education requirements and funding opportunities.
The department is led by an appointed commissioner of education, who is hired by and answers to the 11-member
Kentucky Board of Education. Offices are administered by associate commissioners, and divisions within those
offices are administered by division directors.
The department employs approximately 425 Frankfort-based workers; 175 employees in support of the Kentucky
School for the Blind (Jefferson County) and Kentucky School for the Deaf (Boyle County); and about 518
employees at the 50 Area Technology Centers across the state.

District Facilities Branch has an opening for an KDE Capital Construction Project Manager. This role

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Administer regulations and processes related to capital construction projects, district facility
planning, real property transactions; and the state-wide inventory of school buildings regarding age, physical
condition and educational suitability to Kentucky’s K-12 public school districts.
- Create and maintain capital construction project files in Kentucky Department of Education Capital
Construction database. Provide assistance to school districts and their consultants related to planning and
design of new construction and/or renovation of school facilities. Review facility plans regarding the use of
funds and prepare submittal checklist for district and consultant.
- Create and maintain district planning files. Assist districts in the development of District Facility
Plans including Local Planning Committee review, orientation session development, review, and submission to
the Kentucky Board of Education. Maintain records of district planning activities and notify districts of
upcoming deadlines. Develop district Needs Assessments in the odd calendar years.
- Provide presentations to districts and the organizations that support districts such as Kentucky School
Boards Association (KSBA), Kentucky Association of School Business Officials (KASBO), Kentucky Association of
School Administrators (KASA), Kentucky School Plant Management Association (KSPMA).
