About the role:

At Ampol, we're undertaking significant transformation across our Technology, Digital & Data function, and we're looking for a Solution Architect to play a key role in driving delivery outcomes across our Energy Solutions and B2B technology initiatives. You will play a critical role in shaping the technology solutions that power some of Ampol's most strategic growth areas. Working across a diverse portfolio, you'll help translate business strategy into scalable, secure and practical technology outcomes.

This is a highly collaborative role where you'll partner closely with business leaders, product teams, delivery squads and enterprise architecture to define solution approaches, navigate complexity and drive technology decisions that balance business value, customer outcomes and long-term sustainability.

You'll bring a pragmatic architectural mindset, helping teams solve real business problems while ensuring solutions align with Ampol's broader technology strategy, standards and future-state architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead solution architecture activities across B2B and Energy Solutions initiatives, from ideation through to delivery.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand strategic objectives, operational challenges and customer needs, translating these into technology solutions.
  • Create high-level and detailed solution designs that balance business value, technical feasibility, scalability and maintainability.
  • Guide technology decision-making across applications, integrations, data, platforms and cloud services.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to ensure alignment with Ampol's technology strategy, standards and target architectures.
  • Work closely with delivery teams to provide architectural guidance throughout the implementation lifecycle.
  • Assess current-state systems and identify opportunities to modernise, simplify and reduce technical debt.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning, solution options analysis and investment decision-making.
  • Support vendor evaluations and technology selection activities where required.
  • Identify and manage architectural risks, dependencies and trade-offs across complex initiatives.
  • Champion secure, resilient and scalable solutions that support both immediate business outcomes and long-term growth.

What you’ll bring:

You'll be a strong relationship builder and strategic thinker who enjoys working at the intersection of business and technology. With the ability to navigate ambiguity and influence across diverse stakeholder groups, you'll bring a pragmatic approach to architecture, helping teams make sound decisions while maintaining momentum and delivery focus.

  • Significant experience as a Solution Architect within complex enterprise environments.
  • Proven ability to design end-to-end technology solutions across applications, integrations, data and cloud platforms.
  • Experience supporting large-scale business transformation, customer, commercial or operational technology initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate architectural concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working across multiple delivery teams in Agile environments.
  • Sound understanding of integration patterns, API-led architecture and modern cloud-based solutions.
  • Knowledge of data architecture, security, governance and non-functional requirements.
  • Ability to evaluate solution options, challenge assumptions and make balanced recommendations.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to align technology decisions with business outcomes.
  • Experience producing solution designs, architecture artefacts and decision documentation that enables successful delivery.
  • A collaborative, outcome-focused mindset with a passion for solving complex business problems through technology.

And of course, you’ll be passionate about what matters to Z, embracing and living our values to help us deliver on our aspirations and broader commitment to Aotearoa New Zealand.

Don’t meet every single requirement?
