Description

The Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice is a multi-faceted agency that serves juveniles of the

This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to
perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate
leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. This is a demanding position that
requires maturity, reliability, and self-discipline. Career growth and advancement are encouraged through

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervises employees engaged in providing professional social work services to juveniles and oversees
    programs in the district.
  • Plans, assigns and evaluates the work of employees responsible for ensuring delivery of services to
    juvenile offenders in a defined geographical area.
  • Provides supervision to district staff providing necessary direction and conducts employee performance
    evaluations according to regulations and statutes. Oversees training of juvenile workers.
  • Conducts regular conferences with workers to review juvenile casework.
  • Works closely with unit personnel to provide guidance and counseling on the more complex and difficult
    cases.
  • Directs and oversees the resolution of crisis situations with juveniles and their families.
  • Attends District Court sessions.
  • Attends community meetings and serves as a member of local community committees and workgroups.
  • Compiles monthly reports on district operations.
  • Monitors budget.
  • Travel is required.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
A master's degree in social work, sociology, juvenile justice, corrections or a related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Must have four years of professional experience in providing services to juvenile offenders and/or adult offenders.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
A bachelor's degree supplemented by two years of professional social work experience will substitute for the required master's degree.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Works in an office setting and makes frequent visits to offices within the geographic area. Required to be on call.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
