Acceptable Experience and Education
High school diploma or equivalent plus at least three (3) years working experience in general building maintenance and repair; with two (2) years of a specialty skill, i.e. locksmith, carpenter, etc;
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certificates, Licenses, and other requirements
In order to access into the County’s network and systems, a personal mobile smart device is required by the hire start date.
First Aid and CPR preferred.
Electrician, Plumber, or HVAC licensure preferred.
Must have telephone and report residence.
Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of mechanical equipment; plumbing; electrical and structural construction; installation; maintenance and repair; materials, methods, and practices used in custodial or general maintenance work; paint preparation and application; safe lifting and carrying practices; occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Skill/ Ability to: read and interpret blueprints, plans, and drawings; operate custodial and maintenance equipment; plan, coordinate and supervise the performance of simple to moderately complex contract cleaning tasks and projects; perform manipulative tasks requiring eye/hand/foot coordination; perform heavy manual tasks; understand and carry out oral and written work instructions; establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships; develop accurate estimates for various projects; pass a Criminal Background Check;

Essential Duties
Performs routine and urgent maintenance and repairs on facilities, equipment, and grounds;
Reviews work orders, plans work schedule, and completes required maintenance tasks;
Maintains mechanical and electrical components within facilities; repairs and services interior and exterior service elevators;
Installs, repairs and maintains various plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems;
Performs preventative maintenance to various buildings & equipment;
Evaluates and assesses facility issues, problems and improvements;
Obtains estimates on both small and large projects;
Operates and maintains a variety of power and hand tools of the various trades and equipment;
Paints interior/exterior of facilities;
Performs rough concrete and carpentry work; paints markings on asphalt, floors, or similar surfaces;
Performs preparatory work for painting projects by washing walls, filling in or smoothing surfaces, masking areas, and setting up scaffolding;
Performs setup and takedown of tables and chairs; arranges conference rooms and building lobby special events; moves furniture;
Performs routine grounds maintenance and landscaping at multiple County properties;
Serves as a project lead in the absence of supervisor;
Performs remodeling of building and offices; participates in the initial design process;
Installs drywall, ceilings, baseboards and electrical and plumbing fixtures;
Removes and installs tile;
Assembles and disassembles office cubicles;
Performs electrical services;
Performs full range of licensed duties, including the installation, repair and maintenance of highly sophisticated equipment, units, motors and pumps;
Installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing equipment, including sewer and water lines,
boilers, gas lines, overhead heaters and irrigation systems;
Performs inspection and general maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment;
Completes generator inspections for line safety, exhaust, and other components;
Maintains fluids and fuel in vehicles and equipment, performs preventive maintenance on HVAC units, dryers, kitchens, and elevators;
Prepares for and maintains facility components including building, fire sprinkler, alarm, and other equipment that is inspected annually;
Ensures proper tools, supplies, materials, and equipment are ordered/transported to work sites;
Prepares assigned equipment for safe and efficient operating condition by inspecting prior to and after use;
Ensures Americans Disability Act (ADA) compliance is met;
Troubleshoots and repairs Intercom, Closed Circuit cameras, digital recorders, Closed-circuit television (CCTV) and Master Antenna Television (MATV) systems;
Ensures a safe work zone by proper use of signage and cleaning chemicals and equipment;
Maintains inventory of supplies & parts;
Assists with housekeeping and ground keeping duties as directed;
Assigns and review the work of others, including making recommendations to supervisor regarding personnel performance;
Performs duties of other maintenance or custodial personnel as needed to ensure continuity of operations during absences;
Substitutes, if assigned, during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient to maintain continuity of normal operations;
Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts;
Creates a high-quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills;

The Facilities Maintenance Mechanic, Intermediate performs a variety of mechanical and electro-mechanical maintenance and repair tasks to maintain facility operations; performs routine and preventive facilities maintenance and general repairs; assigns and reviews work of other mechanics; assists licensed mechanics in major projects.

Reports to: Facilities Maintenance Manager, Facilities Maintenance Assistant Manager
Directs: This is a non-supervisory position

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and manually push/pull a dolly. This position on occasion will be required to lift over 35 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Some tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy items. Must be able to operate a vehicle.
