Possession of a high school diploma or GED or one year of experience in any field plus:
Three years of experience in a residential, correctional, behavioral health, or group home setting with responsibility for one or more of the following: rehabilitation of delinquent youth, clinical care, custody, or security; OR
Three years of experience in Probation and Parole.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.
Job Duties:
Supervise daily movement of youth and staff to maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment. Conduct security checks and rounds, ensure doors and gates are properly secured, and oversee youth movement during meals, education, recreation, medical visits, and other scheduled activities.
Maintain safety, custody, and control at all times by enforcing policies, identifying concerns, consulting with supervisors, and preparing accurate reports and shift documentation.
Participate in ACA and Performance-based Standards (PbS) audits. Assist with developing policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines. Serve as a training officer and collaborate with safety personnel to support safety programs, hazard tracking, and accident data analysis.
Support treatment efforts by participating in treatment team meetings and providing observations and recommendations. Serve on Code of Conduct committees when assigned.
Respond to emergencies, conduct searches, and follow all policies related to contraband control, including searches of youth, staff, property, and living areas. Ensure all required documentation is completed and submitted.
Oversee time and attendance processes for subordinate staff, ensuring timely submission of records. Prepare performance planning and evaluation documents, identify training needs, and provide coaching and guidance to staff.
Consult with supervisors and leadership regarding personnel matters and collaborate with other disciplines as needed.
Serve as acting supervisor in the absence of higher-level leadership and perform additional duties as assigned, including responsibilities associated with the Juvenile Justice Specialist 5 role.
