This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. This is a demanding position that requires maturity, reliability, and self-discipline. Career growth and advancement are encouraged through training and mentoring opportunities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Develops, recommends, and administers all of the Training Programs statewide within the Learning Management System (LMS) for DJJ.
• Builds the training programs and classes within the LMS according to approved agendas and program summaries when needed. These programs include treatment modules for employees as well as physical training programs to protect staff and youth.
• Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports associated with assigned duties.
• Plans, creates, and updates all of the Training Programs statewide within the LMS. Coordinates this training with staff both virtually and in-person as needed.
• Reviews reported issues and troubleshoots with staff, escalating to their supervisor when needed.
• Reviews and manages paperwork retention for the Division according to policy and American Correctional Association (ACA)/Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards.
• Assists with ACA and PREA Audits, open records, and legal inquiries.
• Manages the Department training calendar, ensuring trainings are posted when approved and priority scheduling is given to policy required trainings. Communicates with their supervisor any scheduling conflicts.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of professional experience in any operation or program within the field of corrections, juvenile justice, criminal justice, law enforcement, recreation, academic or vocational education, health services or education, dietary or food management, construction project management, social work, or a related field.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional experience in corrections, juvenile justice, criminal justice, law enforcement, recreation, academic or vocational education, health services or education, dietary or food management, construction project management, social work, or related field will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.

Work is typically performed in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
