Are you a skilled and passionate Chef with a drive for culinary excellence? Zén, the sister restaurant to the world-renowned 3-Michelin star Frantzén in Stockholm, is looking for a Junior Sous Chef to join our dynamic team in Singapore.

At Zén, we bring together the finest local and international ingredients to craft a remarkable gastronomic journey across three beautifully designed floors in a historic shophouse in downtown Singapore. Our carefully curated tasting menu reflects the artistry and innovation of world-class cuisine, ensuring an unforgettable experience for every guest.

What We’re Looking For:

We seek a motivated and talented Junior Sous Chef who is eager to contribute to a Michelin-starred kitchen. If you are passionate about food and leadership, this is the opportunity for you.

  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a relevant kitchen position or equivalent. Michelin star experience is a plus but not essential.
  • Leadership: Strong kitchen and staff management skills with the ability to inspire and mentor junior chefs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Sous Chef to plan and direct food preparation.
  • Quality Focused: Maintain the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and guest satisfaction.
  • Communication: Fluent in spoken and written English with the ability to communicate effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Team Player: Ability to work harmoniously as part of a team, fostering a positive and professional work culture.

Your Responsibilities:

1. Assisting in Daily Kitchen Operations

  • You will help oversee the smooth running of the kitchen, ensuring all culinary operations are executed according to Zen's high standards, from preparation to plating.

2. Supervising Kitchen Team

  • Lead and guide the kitchen team, including commis chefs and demi chefs, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, maintaining quality, and staying organized throughout service.

3. Maintaining High Food Quality and Presentation

  • Ensure each dish meets the exceptional quality and presentation standards expected in a Michelin-starred restaurant, consistently delivering exquisite and refined plates.

4. Assisting with Menu Development and Innovation

  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of seasonal menus, specials, and tasting menus by providing input on new ideas and ensuring they align with the restaurant’s concept.

5. Managing Food Preparation and Cooking

  • Oversee food preparation and cooking within your section, ensuring all dishes are executed with precision and in line with Zen’s culinary vision.

6. Ensuring Consistency in Service

  • During service, make sure dishes are consistent in quality, texture, and presentation, ensuring all guests receive a flawless dining experience.

7. Overseeing Stock Control and Inventory

  • Assist in managing inventory, ensuring all ingredients are fresh, stored correctly, and used efficiently to prevent waste while maintaining high-quality standards.

8. Ensuring Hygiene and Food Safety Compliance

  • Maintain the highest hygiene and food safety standards, ensuring cleanliness in the kitchen, proper food storage, and adherence to health regulations at all times.

9. Training and Mentoring Junior Staff

  • Support the development of junior chefs, teaching techniques, standards, and maintaining Zen's culture of excellence while encouraging professional growth.

10. Assisting with Cost Control and Waste Management

  • Monitor portion sizes, ingredient usage, and waste to help manage kitchen costs effectively while ensuring top-quality dishes are produced without excess waste.

11. Handling Special Dietary Requirements

  • Manage special dietary requests or restrictions, ensuring dishes are adapted without compromising quality, flavor, or presentation.

12. Contributing to the Maintenance of Kitchen Equipment

  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of kitchen tools and equipment, ensuring everything is in working order and adhering to safety protocols.

13. Leading During High-Pressure Service

  • Lead your section during peak service times, ensuring efficient operation, effective communication, and quick resolution of any issues to maintain a seamless guest experience.

14. Communicating with Front-of-House Team

  • Work closely with the front-of-house team to ensure smooth communication, ensuring orders are accurate and the dining experience flows seamlessly from the kitchen to the guest.
