The Junior Sommelier takes guidance from the Head of Sommelier and supports all aspects of wine service.This role offers an opportunity to develop international wine knowledge, with a particular focus on French wine, and to master the art of fine wine service. The Junior Sommelier collaborates closely with the in-house team of Sommeliers, providing support in delivering the finest details of wine service, including maintaining appropriate glassware standards and handling wine service equipment.
Support the Head Sommelier in all aspects of wine service, including preparing and delivering wine to guests according to fine dining standards.
Continuously develop international wine knowledge, with a focus on French wines, through on-the-job training and formal certifications such as WSET Level 1.
Ensure appropriate glassware is available and prepared for service, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation.
Handle and maintain wine service tools, such as decanters, corkscrews, and bottle openers, ensuring their readiness for service.
Work closely with the in-house team of Sommeliers to deliver a seamless wine experience for guests.
Support the Head Sommelier in recommending wine pairings that complement the menu and enhance the dining experience.
Identify opportunities to promote and upsell premium wines to guests, contributing to revenue targets.
Assist in maintaining accurate records of wine inventory, ensuring proper stock rotation and availability of key wines.
Engage with guests in a professional and approachable manner, sharing wine knowledge and ensuring their satisfaction.
Uphold a positive and efficient working environment by collaborating with team members and demonstrating a passion for hospitality.
A foundational understanding of wines, particularly French wines, and a commitment to furthering wine education, such as through WSET Level 1.
Familiarity with the techniques and tools required for fine wine service, including decanting and appropriate glassware usage.
The ability to identify opportunities to recommend and upsell wines, enhancing the guest experience while contributing to revenue goals.
Strong interpersonal skills to engage guests professionally and confidently, providing personalized wine recommendations and creating memorable experiences.
ERP knowledge preferably SAP functional skills are a requirement to be successful in this role.
Minimum 3 years working experience, 2 years relevant working experience, 1 year GCC experience is a plus.
