About the Role
We are looking for a Junior SBL Trader to join our Prime Brokerage business, focusing on stock borrowing and lending (SBL) and securities financing activities. The role will work closely with counterparties, clients, operations, and internal teams to support trading execution, inventory management, financing and revenue generation.
The ideal candidate should have direct hands-on experience in SBL, Repo, or Securities Financing, with a solid understanding of market liquidity, borrow availability, pricing and trading dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
1.SBL / Repo Trading & Execution
- Execute and manage stock borrowing and lending transactions, with a focus on improving borrow availability, utilization and trading P&L.
- Monitor market conditions, stock borrow availability, lending rates, liquidity and supply/demand dynamics to identify trading and financing opportunities.
- Support day-to-day management of SBL and securities financing positions and optimize financing costs and returns.
- Monitor hard-to-borrow stocks, recalls, buy-ins, rate movements and other market events relevant to the SBL book.
2.Position & Risk Management
- Monitor SBL / financing positions and assess associated market, counterparty and liquidity risks.
- Conduct analysis on borrow availability, exposure, utilization and financing costs.
- Escalate potential risks and market irregularities in a timely manner and ensure activities are conducted within internal risk and compliance parameters.
3.Counterparty & Client Management
- Maintain day-to-day communication with lenders, borrowers, brokers and other market counterparties.
- Negotiate borrowing/lending rates, terms and availability where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key counterparties to improve access to inventory and financing opportunities.
- Support client and counterparty enquiries relating to borrow availability, rates, recalls and settlement.
4.Trade Settlement & Operational Coordination
- Work closely with Operations and relevant internal teams to ensure accurate and timely settlement of SBL / Repo transactions.
- Reconcile trade details, monitor stock movements and resolve settlement discrepancies or fails.
- Follow up on recalls, buy-ins, corporate actions and other post-trade matters related to financing transactions.
5.Business & System Development
- Work with technology and product teams to improve SBL / financing workflows, trading tools, pricing and automation.
- Provide market and user feedback for system enhancements and participate in UAT and implementation.
- Support the development of trading strategies, monitoring tools and reporting capabilities for the SBL business.
Qualifications
Requirements
- 2–3 years of direct experience in SBL, Repo, securities lending, securities financing, or a closely related trading role.
- Candidates without direct hands-on SBL / Repo / securities financing experience will not be considered.
- Strong understanding of securities lending and financing markets, including borrow availability, lending rates, recalls, buy-ins, utilization and liquidity.
- Experience working with broker-dealers, prime brokerage platforms, institutional clients or market counterparties is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with good numerical and market awareness.
- Able to work in a fast-paced trading environment and respond effectively to time-sensitive market situations.
- Good communication skills and ability to work closely with Trading, Operations, Risk, Compliance and Technology teams.
- Fluency in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
- Strong Excel skills; experience with Python, SQL or other data/trading tools is a plus.
