Job Description

A dynamic and collaborative research laboratory is seeking a highly motivated Junior Research Scientist with training in molecular biology and strong wet lab skills. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing translational research projects involving mouse models and human pathological specimens, with opportunities for skill development in advanced experimental and analytical techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular biology and wet lab experiments with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Maintain, breed, expand, and genotype mouse colonies
  • Conduct manual and automated behavioral assays in cancer and pain mouse models
  • Assist with tissue collection, processing, and analysis from mouse and human specimens
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure compliance with institutional protocols
  • Contribute to general lab organization and experimental workflows

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $47,500 - $50,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, Western Blot and gel electrophoresis)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with mouse models (or willingness to learn)
  • Familiarity with breeding, genotyping and animal handling protocols
  • Interest in behavioral assays and translational research
  • Exposure to image analysis or data analysis (training opportunities available)
