About the Role

As the Junior ICU Registrar you will learn skills in the assessment, triage, resuscitation and further management of patients with acute medical and surgical disorders. You will learn techniques and procedures associated with respiratory, cardiovascular, and renal support. The training obtained during this time is suitable for accreditation for post-graduate training in Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine, Accident and Emergency or Intensive Care Medicine. There are opportunities to learn flexible bronchoscopy, echocardiography, as well as participate in quality improvement work.

Depending on individual training requirements, the ICU registrar position can include three and six month rotations to Intensive Care Units in Alice Springs Hospital in the Northern Territory as well as six-month rotations to affiliated hospitals for anaesthesia and general medicine.

You will be able to participate in our outstanding education program, including dedicated First Part and Second Part Examination preparation, echocardiography, and simulation. Opportunities exist to participate in our research program, including supervision and support for your formal project.

Classifications for this position will range from HM25 - HM30 ($129,048.40 - $177,622.12 per annum, pro-rata for part time)

What You will Bring

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • CICM First Part Examination or equivalent desirable or in preparation
  • Current unrestricted registration with AHPRA or eligibility for general registration
  • Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain

About Intensive Care

The ICU is a 20 bed mixed medical and surgical unit including cardiothoracic and neurosurgical intensive care services admitting over 1600 patients per year. Although high in acuity and patient severity of illness, ICU at SVHM maintains high performance and outstanding patient outcomes. The unit has accreditation for 24 months of core training with the College of Intensive Care Medicine including cardiothoracic and neurointensive care and the position is accredited by CICM as a Transition Year Role.

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.
