Job Description

PURPOSE

The Junior Maintenance Technician supports the safe and efficient operation of production equipment at the Mahwah manufacturing plant by performing routine maintenance, assisting with equipment repairs, and documenting work performed while maintaining compliance with SOP, FDA, and ISO standards. Working under the guidance of experienced technicians, the role helps minimize downtime while developing the technical skills needed to support manufacturing operations.

ACCOUNTABILITIES –

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance activities on manufacturing equipment following established procedures.
  • Assist technicians with troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment issues.
  • Support basic repairs and replacement of machinery components including mechanical parts, fittings, hoses, sensors, and other wear items.
  • Perform equipment inspections and report abnormal conditions, equipment concerns, or potential failures to senior maintenance personnel.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and assist with corrective maintenance activities to support manufacturing operations.
  • Support equipment validation and testing activities in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), FDA, and ISO requirements.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, work orders, repairs, and equipment observations in maintenance tracking systems.
  • Maintain tools, work areas, and maintenance equipment in a safe and organized condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality requirements, and company policies while performing maintenance work.
  • Work flexible hours including 2nd and 3rd shifts, weekends, overtime, and extended hours as business needs require.
  • Effectively communicate equipment status, maintenance activities, and shift handoff information to team members and supervisors.
  • Participate in technical, safety, and job-specific training to develop maintenance knowledge and skills.
  • Other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

Job Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Critical Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience in lieu of education required.
  • College or trade school degree in engineering mechanics or electronics, preferred.

Critical Skills/technical know-how:

  • Entry-level knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or manufacturing systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with CNC equipment or manufacturing machinery is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn maintenance management software.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop technical maintenance skills.
  • Team player with strong attendance and reliability.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting with guidance from experienced technicians.
  • Ability to follow written procedures, work instructions, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to identify equipment abnormalities and communicate findings effectively.
  • Ability to complete assigned work under supervision while demonstrating initiative and a willingness to learn.
  • Flexibility to work overtime in response to business needs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform physical work for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift).
  • Comfort working with manufacturing equipment and technology.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Critical Experience:

  • 0 years of experience required for candidates who have completed a technical school, trade school, vocational certificate, related community college program, or equivalent education in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electronics, Mechanical Systems, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience required for candidates without formal technical education. Relevant experience may include maintenance helper, maintenance apprentice, machine operator, manufacturing associate, facilities assistant, equipment operator, or similar hands-on technical roles.
  • Recent graduates of technical schools, vocational programs, community colleges, or trade programs are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or regulated environment is a plus but not required.
  • Exposure to preventive maintenance, equipment repair, or troubleshooting activities is preferred.

Target Market Salary Range:

Actual compensation packages take into account a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location; skill sets; relevant education and certifications; depth of experience; performance; and other business and organizational needs. At Envista, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, medical/dental/vision benefits, 401K match, and/or other applicable compensation plans.

For Field Sales roles, the salary range listed reflects base pay only and does not include incentive pay opportunities under the applicable sales compensation plan
