Torch Technologies is seeking a Junior Level Data Scientist to join a team supporting USSPACECOM through data collection, interpretation, analysis, and development of analytical products. This position supports USSPACECOM.

As a Junior Level Data Scientist, your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Partner with mission stakeholders, customers, and senior leaders to identify high‑value decisions, operational questions, and analytical requirements.
  • Translate evolving or incomplete customer needs into clear technical requirements, data‑product designs, and prioritized development work.
  • Design and develop data products that integrate, transform, analyze, and present data for operational and decision‑support use cases.
  • Model mission‑relevant entities, relationships, processes, and business rules using various ontology approaches.
  • Develop and maintain data pipelines, transformations, and data‑quality checks within Foundry and Databricks (War Data Platform).
  • Apply relational database concepts (data modeling, joins, keys, normalization, query optimization) to organize and relate disparate data sources.
  • Develop analytical methods, metrics, statistical models, and decision‑support tools.
  • Use SQL, Python, PySpark, and TypeScript for data analysis, transformation, automation, and model development.
  • Build analytical products, dashboards, operational applications, or workflows that enable customers to explore data and act on insights.
  • Communicate analytical methods, assumptions, findings, limitations, and recommendations to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Validate data products with end users and refine based on feedback and mission priorities.
  • Document data sources, transformation logic, ontology design, analytical assumptions, and user workflows.
  • Coordinate with data owners, platform teams, SMEs, and developers to resolve data‑access, data‑quality, and integration issues.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
  • 2+ years of related experience.
  • Secret level DOW clearance with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI
  • Demonstrated experience developing data products or analytical solutions (pipelines, transformations, analytical datasets, dashboards)
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts (tables, relationships, keys, joins, schemas, normalization)
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying, transforming, and analyzing data
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, transformation, automation, or statistical modeling
  • Experience integrating and preparing data from multiple structured and semi‑structured sources
  • Ability to assess data quality, reconcile inconsistent data, identify analytical limitations, and communicate risks
  • Ability to translate customer objectives and operational questions into technical requirements, data models, analytical approaches, and usable products
  • Experience briefing analytical results and recommendations to senior leaders and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with mission partners and multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • TS/SCI level DOW clearance
  • Experience designing or extending ontologies in Palantir Foundry
  • Experience developing Foundry applications, dashboards, workflows, or analytical tools
  • Experience with statistical analysis, forecasting, optimization, machine learning, or other quantitative methods
  • Experience supporting data‑driven decision‑making in a Combatant Command, Joint, Department of Defense, intelligence community, or similar environment
  • Familiarity with operational planning, readiness, logistics, force management, space operations, intelligence support, or other USSPACECOM‑relevant domains
  • Experience with data governance, data stewardship, metadata, and data‑quality processes
  • Experience in cloud technology and cloud employment
  • Experience with CI/CD
  • Machine learning or artificial intelligence experience
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps controls (DoD CIO & AF CSO)
  • Proficiency in data security management
  • Experience with open platforms (Kubernetes/Istio), microservice/service‑mesh architectures, and event‑driven behavior

Schedule: M–F; 8–5

Salary range:  $90,000-$115,000

The salary range information is general guidelines only.  Several factors can influence the salary for a position including but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such as relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications.
