Job Description

Signal is a group of companies offering products and services in commercial shipping. We combine our deep knowledge of shipping with our passion for applied science, technology and modern management methods.

About Signal Ocean: Signal Ocean is the technology arm of the Signal Group. Our primary product, The Signal Ocean Platform, enables shipping professionals to securely handle, integrate and assess complex collections of private and public shipping data.

Driven by advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence, our technology suite provides tailored insights that support our clients in improving performance and efficiency. These insights are delivered through web and mobile applications, as well as through a rich set of APIs and SDKs.

Our backend architecture is designed to offer modular analytics capabilities that are incorporated into our own solutions or embedded directly into our clients’ systems and workflows.

About Signal Maritime: Signal Maritime combines shipping industry expertise with modern data management techniques.

Signal Maritime Services focuses on effective and sustainable commercial management and the development of innovative pooling models that offer adaptability, transparency, improved commercial outcomes and a more equitable distribution of returns.

By combining extensive industry knowledge with advanced data science, we provide shipping professionals with tools and services that enhance their commercial processes and decision-making.

About the role: We are looking for a Junior Legal Counsel, Corporate & Compliance to join the Signal Group's Legal team.

This is a broad in-house role covering the Group's corporate governance, entity management, KYC and regulatory compliance processes, privacy operations and wider compliance framework across a broad range of jurisdictions and Group entities. You will report to the VP Legal and work closely with Finance, HR, Information Security and external counsel and corporate service providers in each jurisdiction.

You will own the accuracy and organization of the Group's corporate and compliance records, and be expected to turn legal requirements into processes that actually run.

What you will do in this role:

  • Corporate governance and entity management: You will run day-to-day corporate administration for Group entities: maintaining corporate records, UBO and officer information, board and shareholder resolutions, statutory filings and annual obligations, and coordinating with local counsel and corporate service providers on jurisdiction-specific requirements.
  • Corporate projects: You will support the VP Legal on restructurings, incorporations, dissolutions, post-acquisition integrations and intercompany reorganizations, owning documentation and deadlines across workstreams.
  • KYC, sanctions and counterparty compliance: You will be a key Legal contact for KYC and sanctions matters, reviewing available information, coordinating relevant screening processes, handling counterparty queries, supporting risk-based decisions on onboarding, and escalating novel or higher-risk matters to the VP Legal as appropriate.
  • Privacy, compliance and regulatory frameworks: You will support the Group's privacy and regulatory compliance frameworks, maintain relevant policies, and escalate specialist points to external counsel when needed.
  • Contracting framework and legal operations: You will own and manage key legal operations, including the Group’s contracting framework, legal library, templates, deviation tracking and record-keeping, as well as maintaining trackers and guidance so routine matters can move efficiently without VP Legal involvement.

Requirements

What you bring to the team:

  • Qualified lawyer in Greece and/or England and Wales (or another relevant jurisdiction).
  • 3-6 years PQE in corporate law, corporate governance, compliance or privacy, ideally across more than one of these areas.
  • Experience coordinating corporate matters across multiple entities or jurisdictions.
  • Practical KYC, AML, sanctions or counterparty due diligence experience.
  • Working knowledge of GDPR and privacy compliance.
  • Comfortable running processes end to end, not just flagging issues.
  • Confident working across Legal, Finance, HR and Information Security, and with external counsel and corporate service providers.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Benefits

What we offer

  • Generous compensation with additional performance incentives.
  • Coverage under the company’s collective health insurance plan.
  • Signal’s hybrid remote-working policy, which currently includes 9 working days at our premises per month, during which happy-hour events also take place.
  • Two to four weeks of onboarding training to prepare you for your new role, with the opportunity to meet approximately 30 trainers while developing a detailed understanding of our products and the shipping industry.
  • Career-growth opportunities and a structured development discussion every four months.
  • A personal learning budget for training, seminars and conferences, ranging from €750 to €2,000 annually depending on seniority.
  • Regular team-bonding events and activities.

All applications will be considered while upholding the terms and conditions of privacy in compliance with personal data protection regulations.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the workplace. At Signal, we believe that a variety of perspectives, approaches, and viewpoints are essential for our innovation and success, and we support this through our hiring, development, and rewards practices. We prohibit discrimination and harassment of any nature, such as those based on race, color, gender, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, genetic information, pregnancy, or any other legally protected characteristics, and we take steps to eliminate such behaviors from our workplace.
