Participates in the installation, calibration, troubleshooting, repairing and maintenance of water and wastewater electronic metering equipment and other instrumentation.

Salary: $61,405.11 - $86,816.49 Annually $1,180.87 - $1,669.54 Weekly
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in precision shop and fieldwork calibrating, troubleshooting, installing, repairing and maintaining electronic metering equipment.
  • May utilize Maximo to input and extract data.
  • Assists with examining malfunctioning instruments, tests sensors and circuitry for defects. Assists with troubleshooting equipment and replacing or repairing defective parts, reassembling the instrument and adjusting all levels and signals to ensure accurate data.
  • May utilize Telog software to review meter data.
  • Participates in the safe and orderly maintenance of all tools, materials, equipment, vehicles and facilities.
  • Assists with the stocking of all necessary parts, equipment and supplies.
  • Follows all MWRA safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • A high school education or a vocational school certificate in electronics.
  • A valid Class D Motor Vehicle Operators License or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Confined Space training with MWRA certification within three (3) months of employment required.
  • Must have the ability to raise a 180-pound co-worker from a metering sewer or water manhole in a reasonable amount of time using a DBI/SALA tripod/winch system.
  • This position has been designated as essential in instances where the MWRA Executive Director requires essential personnel to report to work such as inclement weather or other emergencies.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Understanding of principles and practices of electronics, hydraulics and mechanics.
  • Knowledge of the tool methods, materials and techniques used in repairing, adjusting and testing all types of instrumentation.
  • Working knowledge of computers.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records in a legible and orderly fashion.
  • Skill in the operations of the listed tools and equipment.

Tools and Equipment Used

Electronic test equipment, climbing and fall retrieval equipment, personal computer including word processing and other software, hand tools, mobile radio, copy and fax machines.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee may work regularly in below ground confined spaces and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in field settings and moderately quiet in office settings.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Works under the supervision of a Sr. Instrument Technician and/or the Supervisor of Water/Wastewater Meter Maintenance.
