Novanta Robotics and Automation (R&A) delivers advanced motion control solutions that enable precision, efficiency, and reliability in demanding industrial and medical applications. R&A offers a broad portfolio of motion control products, including servo drives, inductive and optical encoders, stepper motors and force torque sensors. As part of Novanta, R&A leverages global engineering, manufacturing, and support capabilities while maintaining a responsive, customer‑centric approach—helping OEMs accelerate innovation and deliver reliable, high‑value motion systems.
The Hardware Engineer role within Novanta R&A focuses on the development of robust, high‑performance electronics for the different motion control products within the group. The position involves system‑level design of motion control solutions and detailed design of control electronics, power management, and communication interfaces for industrial and medical motion applications. Working closely with cross‑functional teams and customers, the role supports both standard platforms and customized solutions from concept through production, with a strong emphasis on reliability, manufacturability, and long‑term product performance.
The selected engineer will be focused on collaborating with the operations team in quality and operational improvements of all the hardware designs of the stepper motors product line. The selected engineer will also collaborate in the design, implementation and verification of the new designs of potentially any of the R&A products. The position requires good hardware skills but also a deep understanding of design for manufacturing and reliability.

Primary Responsibilities
Develop and maintain the hardware running the R&A products, with special focus on stepper motors
Design new and redesign existing electronic circuits, including schematic and layout.
Conduct detailed circuit analysis and optimize designs through effective component selection and performance evaluation, including circuit simulation.
Hands-on new hardware board bring-up, system debugging, and optimization.
Review and improve external documentation (Product manuals, Datasheets, etc.).
Improve internal documentation (Architecture, Detailed Design, etc.).
Define, in conjunction with the Quality Assurance team, the Test and Verification Plans.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders to align technical requirements and solutions.
Communicate effectively with customers and suppliers to support product development and integration.
