Arcadis is seeking a motivated and safety-focused Geotechnical Field Technician / Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations for municipal, transportation, infrastructure, land development, and environmental projects throughout Ontario.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Professional Engineers and be responsible for supporting field investigation programs, drilling operations, soil and groundwater sampling, borehole logging, monitoring well inspections, construction monitoring, and technical field reporting.

This role combines field engineering, site investigation, and construction inspection responsibilities, providing excellent exposure to geotechnical engineering practice.

The position is ideally suited to an early-career engineer with 1 to 3 years of experience who is pursuing professional licensure and enjoys hands-on field work in a dynamic consulting environment.

Role accountabilities:

  • Support field investigations and drilling programs, including coordination of borehole layouts, soil and groundwater sampling, logging, and field data collection.
  • Assist with geotechnical and hydrogeological monitoring activities, including observation, measurement, and documentation of subsurface and groundwater conditions.
  • Perform construction inspection and monitoring to verify that site activities and materials comply with project specifications, drawings, and quality requirements.
  • Prepare accurate technical documentation, including field notes, borehole logs, site records, inspection reports, and summary findings for project teams.
  • Follow and promote health, safety, and quality procedures at all times, ensuring safe work practices, proper documentation, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Must be an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with PEO or eligible to register, with commitment to obtaining P.Eng.
  • Requires 2–3 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, construction inspection, hydrogeological investigations, environmental field services, or similar consulting work.
  • Co-op and internship experience may be counted toward the experience requirement.
  • Preference for experience supporting drilling programs, subsurface investigations, and construction monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, soil mechanics, field investigations, soil sampling, and borehole logging is needed.
  • Must be able to prepare technical field records and reports, with proficiency in Microsoft Office; borehole logging software is an asset.
  • Requires a valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence; Nuclear Density Gauge certification is considered an asset.
  • Must be comfortable with outdoor fieldwork, lifting up to 25 kg, working on uneven terrain/construction sites, travelling across Ontario, and occasionally working extended hours.
  • Strong fit candidates demonstrate health and safety commitment, communication skills, organization, teamwork, independence, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
