Job Description

The Junior Geotechnical Engineer supports the delivery of geotechnical consulting services across infrastructure and development projects through technical analysis, reporting, and coordination. The role contributes to project delivery while developing core consulting and engineering capabilities. It requires applying fundamental geotechnical engineering principles to support foundation design, earthworks, and underground structures, while ensuring compliance with relevant standards and meeting client requirements.

This role involves assisting in developing site investigation programs, technical analysis, report preparation, and design tasks under the supervision of senior engineers or project managers, and contribution to project delivery within time and budget constraints.

The position is suited for an early-career professional with 2–3 years of experience who is developing strong technical foundations while gaining exposure to client-facing and project delivery aspects of consulting.

The incumbent is expected to uphold SJ Group values, ethics, and code of conduct, and ensure all work is carried out in accordance with these guiding principles.

Required Experience:

  • 2–3 years of experience in geotechnical engineering or related field
  • Experience in geotechnical consulting or infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, rail, buildings, tunnels, or marine works) is an advantage
  • Exposure to site investigations, laboratory testing coordination, and construction support activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work within project schedules and budgets in a team environment

Technical Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics principles
  • Ability to perform geotechnical analyses (e.g., foundations, settlement, slope stability, retaining structures)

Responsibilities:

  • Support geotechnical investigations through planning, field coordination, and interpretation of site and laboratory data.
  • Perform basic geotechnical analyses for foundations, earthworks, slopes, and excavation support under supervision.
  • Prepare design calculations, technical reports (e.g., GIR, GFR), and documentation in accordance with relevant codes and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to project delivery within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Utilize industry-standard geotechnical software to support analysis and design tasks.
  • Ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance of outputs with internal QA/QC standards and company procedures.
  • Support project managers in tracking progress and maintaining project performance.
  • Uphold company values, ethics, and professional standards in all aspects of work.
