Job Purpose: The Mechanical Foreman is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical systems and equipment within the mine. This role ensures that all mechanical work is conducted in compliance with the Coal Mines Regulation of 2017, maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency. The Mechanical Foreman coordinates with engineers, technicians, and mine management to implement mechanical projects, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the continuous operation of mining machinery and equipment.

Mechanical Foreman - Coal Mining

Installation and Maintenance of Mechanical Systems:

Oversee the installation of mechanical systems and machinery, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.

Ensure all installations are properly documented and certified as per regulatory requirements.

Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all mechanical equipment and systems.

Conduct regular inspections to identify and address potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.

Diagnose and repair mechanical faults, minimizing downtime and maintaining operational efficiency.

Coordinate with technicians to ensure timely and effective resolution of mechanical problems.

Ensuring Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure all mechanical work complies with the Coal Mines Regulation of 2017 and other relevant safety standards.

Conduct safety audits and inspections, rectifying any non-compliance issues promptly.

Maintain accurate records of all mechanical work, including installations, maintenance, and repairs.

Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory bodies as mandated.

Ensure all mechanical personnel are appropriately trained and certified, maintaining high standards of competence and safety.

Supervising Mechanical Personnel:

Lead a team of mechanics and technicians, providing clear instructions and support to ensure efficient workflow.

Conduct regular team meetings to review work progress, address challenges, and share safety practices.

Monitor and evaluate the performance of mechanical staff, providing feedback and training to improve skills and productivity.

Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the mechanical team.

Develop and manage work schedules for the mechanical team, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts and projects.

Supporting Mine Operations:

Ensure the continuous and reliable operation of all mining machinery and equipment, coordinating with the operations team as necessary.

Implement maintenance strategies to maximize equipment uptime and operational efficiency.

Provide mechanical expertise and support for mine expansion and development projects, ensuring integration with existing systems.

Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure mechanical systems meet operational requirements.

Lead the mechanical team in responding to emergencies, such as equipment failures or mechanical breakdowns, ensuring quick and effective resolution.

Implementing Technological Advancements:

Identify and implement technological advancements in mechanical systems to improve efficiency and safety.

Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, incorporating new technologies into mine operations where applicable.

Oversee the integration of automation and control systems, enhancing the operational efficiency of mining processes.

Ensure all automated systems are properly maintained and operated in compliance with safety standards.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the mechanical department, focusing on enhancing system reliability and performance.
