Position Overview

Electrical Design Engineer owns the complete electrical design lifecycle of EHV transformers — design, validation, optimization, and testing support. The role demands strong theoretical grounding, extensive calculation capability, openness to alternative design approaches, and active involvement in tendering and costing activities.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Engineering

  • Design transformer electrical systems including core, windings, and insulation
  • Prepare electrical design documentation and calculations
  • Ensure performance, reliability, and efficiency targets are met
  • Perform design analysis using design software/simulation tools (e.g., SoftTeam / VIT programs or equivalent)

Advanced Calculations & Theoretical Application

  • Perform extensive calculations: losses, impedance, efficiency, short-circuit and thermal considerations
  • Apply strong theoretical knowledge to validate designs
  • Evaluate alternative design approaches for optimization

Tendering & Proposal Engineering

  • Support quotation and tendering activities
  • Develop preliminary designs for competitive bidding
  • Align technical solutions with commercial requirements

Specification Interpretation

  • Interpret customer specifications and requirements
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, ANSI/IEEE, ISO standards

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate with mechanical and control teams
  • Work with sales, PMO, manufacturing, and testing teams

Testing & Execution Support

  • Support FAT, routine, and type testing
  • Resolve design issues during execution

Costing, Optimization & Commercial Awareness

  • Contribute to electrical costing for tendering and execution
  • Evaluate cost impact of materials, losses, and design choices
  • Support cost-performance trade-offs and optimization
  • Work with procurement for cost benchmarking
  • Provide inputs for budgetary and detailed costing

Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Expertise

  • Strong experience in electrical design of transformers (400kV+)
  • Deep understanding of transformer theory and design principles
  • Proven capability in complex engineering calculations
  • Ability to perform design analysis using SoftTeam/VIT programs (or equivalent design software)
  • Well versed with ANSI transformer designs
  • Well versed with reactive-type RMV (Regulating/Reversing) LTC designs with series booster transformers
  • Well versed with preventive auto/reactor transformer designs
  • Ability to evaluate multiple design alternatives
  • Knowledge of IEC, ANSI/IEEE standards
  • Awareness of electrical design cost drivers

Engineering Awareness

  • Basic understanding of mechanical constraints and layout
  • Basic understanding of control systems and interfaces

Professional Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think beyond conventional solutions
  • Effective communication and collaboration
  • High ownership and execution focus

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in transformer electrical design
  • Experience in EHV transformers preferred

Mobility

  • Willing to relocate to Hyderabad

Ideal Candidate

An electrical design expert who combines strong theory, deep calculations, commercial awareness, and execution capability.

Ayr Energy

About Ayr Energy

Ayr Energy wasn’t built to be another OEM. We were built to rethink what customers should expect from one.

Critical infrastructure projects have become more demanding, but the customer experience of buying and delivering power equipment hasn’t kept pace. Too often, customers are left navigating fragmented communication, limited visibility, and unnecessary complexity.

Ayr exists to change that.

We combine engineering expertise, strategic manufacturing partnerships, rigorous quality oversight, and transparent execution to deliver a modern experience from planning through energization. Rather than simply supplying equipment, we work as an extension of our customers’ teams – bringing clarity, accountability, and confidence to every stage of the project lifecycle.

Our portfolio includes medium and high-voltage transformers and switchgear serving utilities, renewable energy developers, data centers, EPCs, and other critical infrastructure markets. Every project is supported by a global manufacturing ecosystem, robust quality standards, and a commitment to long-term partnership. At Ayr, modernization isn’t just about the equipment we deliver. It’s about improving how critical grid infrastructure projects are executed, communicated, and supported – because customers should expect more than hardware from the companies that power the future.
