Due to continued growth across the defence sector, we are supporting a leading defence technology organisation in the search for a Junior Data Engineer to help scale their data and analytics capabilities across the UK and internationally.

The Opportunity

As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining the data infrastructure that underpins advanced analytics and operational insight. Working alongside experienced engineers, analysts, and delivery teams, you’ll contribute to scalable, customer-focused data solutions in a highly collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes to support analytics, experimentation, and decision-making
• Integrate new data sources, ensuring data is accurate, structured, and accessible to internal teams and customers
• Support the development of data models, documentation, and data warehouse solutions
• Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and delivery teams to align data systems with customer requirements
• Contribute to data quality, monitoring, and automation, continuously improving platform performance
• Assist with data analysis, visualisation, and ad-hoc investigations to support customer insight
• Participate in troubleshooting, technical discussions, and customer-facing demonstrations
• Engage with partners across the defence data ecosystem, supporting knowledge sharing and innovation

About You

You’re a technically curious and motivated individual with a passion for working with data and solving complex problems.

Essential skills & experience:

• Experience working with large datasets to support analytics, experimentation, or training
• Background in data engineering, computer science, data analytics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Familiarity with data processing tools and pipelines (e.g. SQL, Python, ETL tools, cloud technologies)
• Strong IT skills and a proactive approach to learning new tools and technologies
• Ability to understand customer challenges and contribute to practical, data-driven solutions
• Strong collaboration skills with a positive, adaptable mindset
• Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC)
• Experience with data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Apache Superset, or Jupyter

Desirable Experience

• Exposure to cloud platforms, simulation environments, or defence systems
• Experience optimising systems for performance, scalability, and reliability
• Familiarity with project or task management methodologies
• Full UK driving licence
