Job Description

As a Cyber Security Analyst, you will provide frontline monitoring, triage, and escalation support for JSI's cyber security program. This is an early-career individual contributor role with no team leadership responsibilities, designed to build toward more senior security work under the guidance of senior team members.

You will report to the Senior Manager, IT/IS/Cyber Security Operations for people management, and take technical direction, task prioritization, and day-to-day operational guidance from the Cyber Team Lead and Senior Cyber Security Analysts. This role follows established playbooks and escalation procedures, building toward greater independence and judgment over time.

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to provide reliable, well-documented first-line monitoring and triage across JSI's security tools and Service Desk tickets, ensuring potential threats and incidents are identified and escalated quickly and accurately. The position supports the broader Cyber Team by handling foundational, high-volume tasks so Senior Analysts and the Team Lead can focus on complex investigations, strategic work, and program ownership.

This role also serves as a development path into more senior cyber security positions, with structured exposure to vulnerability management, incident response, and GRC processes under close mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

Security Monitoring and Triage

  • Monitor security tools and alerts (e.g., CrowdStrike, SIEM Platforms, Tenable Nessus, Qualys) for anomalies, threats, and policy violations
  • Perform initial triage and classification of alerts based on established criteria
  • Escalate confirmed or suspected incidents to Senior Cyber Security Analysts or the Cyber Team Lead per defined escalation procedures
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of alerts, tickets, and triage outcomes

Vulnerability and Patch Support

  • Support execution of vulnerability scans and assist with reporting
  • Help track remediation status and follow up on outstanding vulnerabilities
  • Support validation of patch deployment in coordination with the ITS team

Incident Response Support

  • Assist with data gathering, log review, and initial containment steps under the direction of Senior Analysts
  • Follow established incident response playbooks and procedures
  • Support post-incident documentation and reporting

GRC and Compliance Support

  • Assist with evidence collection in Vanta to support ISO 27001, UK Cyber Essentials, and EU CRA compliance activities
  • Support basic policy and procedure documentation tasks
  • Assist with tracking third-party vendor compliance checklists

Operational Excellence and Service Delivery

  • Provide first-line support for security-related Service Desk tickets
  • Escalate complex or ambiguous security tickets to Senior Analysts per defined escalation paths
  • Help maintain accurate ticket records and follow-up on open items

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Support user security awareness efforts, including basic guidance and phishing report triage
  • Take direction from the Cyber Team Lead and Senior Cyber Security Analysts
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with stakeholders across the organization

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree, college diploma, or equivalent coursework/certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 0-3 years of experience in IT, security operations, or a related technical role
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, firewalls, and security fundamentals
  • Exposure to monitoring or alerting tools is an asset
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and ITIL-aligned processes is an asset

Additional Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow established procedures
  • Ability to take direction well and escalate appropriately when uncertain
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts or provide on-call coverage if required
  • Eagerness to learn and grow into more senior cyber security roles
  • Ability to attain and maintain required security clearance

Desirable Skills

  • Entry-level certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+) or actively working toward one, are a plus
  • Exposure to CrowdStrike, Vanta, or similar security and compliance tooling
  • Basic scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python) are a plus
  • Familiarity with common compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) is an asset

Mindset and Growth

  • Strong learning mindset with a genuine interest in building a career in cyber security
  • Demonstrates curiosity, initiative, and proactive problem-solving
  • Follows direction well while progressively building toward independent judgment
  • Comfortable working within defined processes and escalation paths
